Sony Stereo Installation Help

Hi,

I've been trying this for about 2 days now, I have had my Leon Cupra (2007) for about a year and finally got round to buying a kit which would let me install my Sony XPlod (MEX-BT3800U) stereo.

The problem is that it won't switch on, when I plug in the power cable it sounds as though something is happening inside the stereo, and i can insert and remove CDs but the display just doesn't switch on.

I have bought the following cable to convert from the stereo to the car cables:

PC2-75-4 ISO Harness
PC5-137 Aerial Adaptor (not that i think this is relevant)

I also have tried another of these cables with the same result and also have tried a different Sony XPlod with the same result. But have been able to install that stereo into my girlfriend's car so I know it's not a problem with the stereos.

I have also tried swapping the red and yellow cables around, just to see if this works (yellow cable from car, going into red cable in stereo) but that didn't help.

So... something is wrong and it's driving me up the wall.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Cheers

i think you have to connect the yellow to the red
the radio must have a permanent live which if i remember is the yellow on the sony and a ignition live which is red
if i remember some you just put permanent live to them

Hi, thanks for your help. Yeah i tried the swapping over of the cables, the one i have has a connector to allow me to plug the red wire into the yellow one, but that didnt do anything at all, the noise inside didnt happen either. I'll try that again tomorrow just in case i did it wrong.

That cable seems to be the same one i already have although I don't have the steering wheel cable, which is something i want to get.

Wondering if I just give in, get ripped off and take it to Halfords for them to have a go...

Hmmm just been out to have a look, and the connector i have allows me to connect the yellow wire from the car into a connector which allows both the red and yellow wire from the radio to be plugged into it. So basically it needed both the red and yellow wire to be connected to the car's yellow wire.

So it works, just need a steering wheel control now :)

Thanks!

To get the steering wheel control you'll have to scrap the lead you've just got working I'm afraid!

The connects2 lead has the multiblock thing which, when connected to a Sony patch lead that plugs into your stereo, will allow steering wheel control. AFAIK there's no way to add this functionality to your current lead.

The aerial lead will improve your radio reception as it's amplified, and its blue wire (from memory) needs to be connected to a +12V

Ah that's a shame, thanks for the info though. I connected the blue wire for the radio reception ok, so all seems good. Worried about a few pages around the web that you shouldn't connect both the red and yellow to the car's yellow wire... I'll do a bit more reading.

Cheers
