So now I know where the leak's coming from...

...but I don't know what to do about it!

Basically I took out my pollen filter last night and found a puddle underneath it. It looks like water has practically been gushing through both sides of the filter - it's properly soaked! So dryed it out, and the carpet with the missus' hair dryer (which worked surprisingly well)

Seat can't look at it for another week, so atm I've got a black sack under the windscreen wiper stopping water going into the scuttle, as it is basically draining into the filter?!?

I read about sealing it with tape, but I can't even think where to start putting it as the leak seems pretty serious:confused:

Any help appreciated guys - everybody stops and stares when I pull up in the LCR, and then laugh like banshees when they see me and my makeshift fix!

The inside of the filter cover has a rubber gaiter bonded to it, which fits around the outside of the filter when the cover is fitted - if this gaiter gets folded over or crimped by the cover then it will let in water as described.

Ah right - where are the drains? On the right side (as I look at the front of the car) there's just a hole - is there a drain in the middle near the wipers?

Feel like such a nooob.

I'll double-check the seal on the gaiter and make sure it's put back properly.

Yeah the drains are oblong with oval ends and one on each side of the bulkhead, they are in the same place as in this pic (of my S3 when it had a blocked drain hole) the yellow arrows show the drain hole.

As said there is one on easch side and they run to the bottom of the car in a tube like drain, these can look clear form the top but may be blocked further down the tube (as with my Leon passenger leak recently) I just fired a hose down it and that cleared it, I also refitted the Pollen Filter and housing to make sure.

Have to be honest, I got in late from work last night and House was on TV so I've stuck with my quick fix atm.

I'm going to have a look tonight - reckon it's either the drain holes or the cover folded under.

Will keep you posted.

Cool, as said the pic above is my old S3 but 99% sure the drain holes are in the same place so should help you locate them easily enough, let us know how you get on.

Right went out tonight, found the drain holes, blasted them with a hose no problems.

However, I think the gaiter over the pollen filter had folded under itself on both sides, which would logically explain why both sides of the filter were getting wet.

I took the filter out, placed a dry cloth over the gap, gingerly replaced the gaiter properly, gone over it with a hose again, and the cloth was still bone dry.

Suppose I won't know for sure unless I take it through a car wash (no chance) or the rain comes on again (far more likely).

Here's hoping...

Well the rain is absolutely hammering it down outside right now (and I'm supposed to be playing footy in an hour).

Sat in the car for a bit, opened up all the vents, still bone dry...for now at least...

I'll pop out again in 10 minutes see if anything has soaked through.

Ah, nature's car wash...
