been thinking about what to do with the car and really like the euro look. was wondering how much work is in smoothing the ibiza bumpers compared to 6n2 polo bumpers as i know what my boyfriend paid for his and trying to make a rough estimate myself before going to see the guy. any help would be great thanks guys!

Hi,

I used to own a 6n2 gti & have been looking into getting my bumpers smoothed on the ibiza, the cost doesnt seem to differ (well the bodyshops i have got estimates from). So you will be looking to pay the same as your boyfriend, it will be slightly more if the color is metallic. Obviously you pay for what you get but i have been quoted around £300-400.

Just remember with the ibiza front bumpers there are two screws underneath the bump strips that you need to remove in order to take off the bumper (unlike the 6n2)....maybe worth mentioning to them...i asked a few people on here and they said the bumper should still be supported well enough without them.

One of the things holding me back though is i havent seen one photo of an ibiza from the rear thats been smoothed, from the front it looks awesome though (hooch is the guy to ask for a piccie)

yeah my boyfriends is a gti too, thought the price might be similar but wasn't sure whether one would be a great deal more work than the other. the guy who did his made a good job so that is who i would go to. we are quite remote where we are too and don't know of anyone else that would do it.
yeah i seen some of hoochs pics when searched for smooth bumpers, looked good!

£300 - £400 !!! :-o

Ill take it thats just removing the bump strips, filling the space left and painting?

I reckon if you did all the prep work yourself then it would cost less then half that for the spraying.

Guess it depends how handy you are with the old filler.

But i am a tight c*nt so i would be doin it myself haha.

For about £50 youd get the filler and sand paper to do one yourself then just get it blown over surely!!!

Or is there more to it ?

Again depends if you handy with the filler.

Unless your really really good at getting filler and fibre glass smooth then dont bother doing it yourself. It may look and feel smooth when you doing it but until the paint goes on you wont know for sure how good it is

If just using filler and glass then just be extra extra careful not to clip anything or it'l just crumble and will need doing all over again. be worth having a good scout about to see if there is anyone up your way now.

yeah might well do that, is just an idea for now but one that i am quite keen on so will look into it further. i have put the bonnet getting sprayed on hold as if i'm going to get this done it will be at a bodyshop and might aswell get the bonnet done there too rather than risking have my mates brother do it.

yeah there a few bodyshops here but i know what this guys work is like and my bf has had quite a lot done there so would rather just go to him. most cars up here are corsas or cavies lol :( you do get the odd nice car but not very often. mainly the dubs i'm into coz thats what my bf got and go to all clubs, etc. wi him. bit of a bummer being where i am tbh.

has anyone got a pic of a smoothed ibiza from the rear?

I wouldnt try and fill it myself, seen a few people try and it goes tits up or sinks over time...so 300-400 quid for both isnt bad then, good to know...

This ones got a mk4 bottom on it but you get the idea. And the non cupra rear bumpers will look the same as the only diference is the exhaust cut out
