Sluggish 20VT

Hi, im new to the forum,
I went to look at a Ibiza 20VT today.. Love it

However, it seemed sluggish and didnt really seem to boost.
The bloke said he put it on the diagnostics machine and it needed a new Temperature sender.. because of an "implausible sensor"

Thus causing it to overfuel when hot, because it apparently thinks its cold..
Well, hes changed that, and also the MAF. But its doesnt seem as quick as it should do..

Is there a quick fix for this, i know i couldve done a search, but i'm not really "clued" up about these cars and Im after a straight answer before i take the plunge and hand him over the keys for my Volkswagen Golf!!

By the way.. its done 77k miles, has Full Service history etc..

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks alot
Matt

Okay...

Well, is there anything that would cause it too overfuel when its hot.. and if there was

Would it also affect the way it drives.. e.g how quick it is?! Sorry if im being thick

It has an induction kit, Bailey Dump Valve.. the N75 Mod (what ever that is), and apparently its been remapped?!

Thanks

Ignore that comment. They are not slow standard, depends what car your coming from really as a comparison. Is it really sluggish? Like limp mode slow?

If its been remapped it should feel reasonably quick, you need to find out whether there's anything else wrong with it first by scanning for codes.

Unless its revo'd and the map is switched off

Okay, its not got any proof its been remapped..
He Thinks it has been?

I haven't drove it myself, maybe it was his driving? Hmm im not sure..

But he said, he changed the MAF, he then put it on a diagnositics machine, and it said "implausible temperature sensor", so he changed that, and it hasnt cured the problem

The actual problem was that, when it's hot, it doesnt want to start.. he said its as if its overfuelling because the ECU thinks the engine was cold, hence the increased fuel, he said if the temperature is wrong on the ECU then it sort of throws everything out of sync, which is why its not as quick as it could be?
He suggested it might be the thermostat.

Has that made it any clearer for anyone?
Really want this car, but not sure if it's guna be a problem to fix it!

And, no, i dont have VAG com.

Thanks

Diagnosing the problems on here will take a while - you don't have a while, you don't have the car, and you don't have any diag' tools - walk away (or get the tools to scan the car for problems - or get a massive discount and take a punt if you can afford it)

It's probably not terminal (never heard of over-fueling causing any of the above issues with Ibizas, althought the MAF and water temp' sensor are common and affordable) . Can't see why it would be the thermostat. and for the reasons that the guy seems 'odd' I'd be moving on.

At the very least do a comprehensive 'is it nicked' check.

- or, say where you live and take somebody who owns one (Cupra and, or VAG-Com) along with you!

if it does not start when hot.. walk away. not worth the hassle. you can pick up a nice example for £3.5k if not a bit lower these days

I agree with the above, either get a good discount for the 'unknown' problem & take your chances or find a good example..there are a fair few around so take your pick...just dont take the first that comes along..a few mods here & there will save you a fortune...especially if you want something quick
