yes, it means that it skipped the Air Bag controller. Older versions of VAG-COM allowed you to tell VAG-COM to skip this module because we discovered a flaw in the comms with air bag controllers. We gave the user the option to skip the air bag module.

In current versions of VCDS, we resolved the issue and reported to VW how they could fix it for their factory scan tools!

Do I disconnect both terminals?
Yes, that is usually the accepted practice

And do I need to reset anything at all after re-connection to battery ? I ask because Manual says you have to reset lots of things, like Throttle body, etc., but can't do this without Vag com.

Yes, you will need to reset the Throttle Body. I can't think of anything else that will need to be reset though.

If you get access to VCDS (VAG-COM) then you should be able to clear the faults without disconnecting the battery - which by the way, is no longer the accepted way to clear fault codes. Some modules in newer cars retain the codes even with loss of power.

Thank you James. What about resetting Throttle Body?
If codes come back does this mean there is a genuine fault that needs looking at?

Long story Mate. Not had car long but I love it - X reg 1.8 Leon Ts. Battery ran flat & I replaced battery a couple of months ago. Car started missing slightly so I took it for a diagnosis check - not Vag com. This showed several things but guy said All would clear if I changed plugs & coil packs. Did this but still missing. OK on motorway and when cold, but intermittently missing when hot. Pal in Cardiff came down Friday & did Vag com as a favour & it threw up these codes ::

17608 Mechanical malfunction in N249 valve. P-1200-35-00

17705 Pressure drop between turbo & throttle valve - check DV. Intermittent.

16514 Oxygen[Lambda] sensor B151 Sensor 1 malfunction in circuit Intermittent

OK with these as I was going to do them anyway, but the next ones have got me stumped ;

17646/17648 Fuel Injector cyls. 2&4 N31 & N33 Open circuit. Intermittent
17763/17766/17769/17772 Ignition circuit on all 4 cylinders showing open circuit. Intermittent.

This is in addition to several internal codes e.g.heated external mirrors, a rear electric window motor, etc, but they can wait a while till I can sort out mechanical problems.

Car starts first time, but there is sometimes a strong smell of petrol which disappears after a while, & i'm using a LOT of fuel at th
e moment.

Id first start by having a look for a boost/vacuum leak, causing the car to run lean..thus using more fuel to compensate, strong petrol smell would indicate running rich however, if you have a lambda fault then this would causes these issues...

Could do with some logging to see your fuel trims etc

where you based??

South Wales, mate.. Having MOT next week, shouldn't this show problem with Lambda sensor - emissions ?

Also, bypassing N239, upgrading Dump Valve and hoses. This should sort out the main problems. Just baffled by the Injector & Ignition Circuit problem !!!
