Before I get flamed for having the free version of VAG-Com, I thought I'd try it before committing to the full version.

I was helping a friend with his Fabia to turn on the anti hijack function using controller 46. VAG-Com opens the controller fine and I can read the setting on the function but when I try to test the new setting it keeps throwing up an error saying something about "too many communication errors".

Is it because I've got the free version or ...? Answers on a postcard please.

Nope - sounds like the lead you are using is having trouble adapting to the comm speed of the module. As a result, VAG-COM is not getting accurate characters.

You can try playing with baud rate in the Options screen. That's about the only thing short of getting a lead with the adaptable hardware built in to eliminate these problems. You know where to get that lead.

Thanks for that. I thought it might be something like that, will have a play and see what happens.

Hmmm, where would you be able to get one of those cables??? ;)

Many thanks,

What's the cost of the lead Please Bruce,I've got the licensed version, but getting some occasional probs with comms errors.

If you purchased a license for your aftermarket lead, you can do what we call an outright upgrade to any of our current product. The Outright upgrade gives you $100 off the retail price of the lead. That's right, we give you credit for the $99 you paid us for the license and then for good measure, we give you another buck ($1) to buy a cup of coffee on us!

For more information about the Outright upgrade, please see this page:

You can talk with them about it. They usually shy away from doing the upgrades because we have to check records and so on for them. They can make it happen for you - it's a little more work for them. We do not force them to do upgrades.

You can always come to RT direct. We ship to the UK everyday.
