side air bag resistance help

hi all

so ive fitted some s3 seats and want to replicate the side air bags being pluged in to stop my light from coming on my dash, im trying to find out......

i prosume all side airbags have the same resistance as if the airbags were working i could just connect the 2 plugs and the resistance would be correct......hence no light

how can i find out what resistance the air bag gives back so as i can just solder a resistor onto the loom from the car to replicate it and stop the light coming on.....

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

A tidier option is to cut the plug(s) off your old seats (unless you're selling them of course)

It's a 5ohm resistor you need

Done it in the Toledo - although it's a 5ohm, not 0.5  (have edited the post above)

These don't have airbags either [B)]

It was originally posted on one of the Mk4 Golf forums, but looks like the thread's been archived/moved/deleted

Pretty sure the wires were blue, grey and black ?? it's between the two that aren't black anyway - I'll go take a piccie when I get home

Ok well on mine its brown.white and green on passengers side and brown white and blue on drivers side so I'm guessing it needs putting across the green and white and blue and white......is there any risk of doing it across the wrong 2 could set off the other air bags in the car....there isn't is there....

Haha Memory FAIL ! (In my defence, this was like 4yrs ago)

No, all that'll happen if it's not the right two wires is the light will trigger on the dash - which is a dealer/VagCom reset

A few giddy passengers have knocked the plugs under the seats in the Toledo in the past and I've had to go get the light reset

Yeah, just checked the passenger side 'plug' and it's the white and green wires (or blue and black on the seat wiring)

Couldn't see the coloured bands on the resistor, but Maplins (or any of the leading electronics suppliers) ;) should be able to sort you out with a couple of 5ohm resistors for like, 10p

hi mate just tried both 4.7 and 5.6ohm resistors as they didnt have any 5ohms and reset the light using my vagcom and vag com is still saying the resistance is too high....does that mean 5 is too big for me??as its saying resistance is too high even with the 4.7 in...?!?!?

your right mate, put the 4.7s back in and re did it and job done :) instead of costing me 30 odd quid its cost me 68p as i bought 4 resistors but in the end have only used 1 as ive wired the drivers air bag up correctly.....just in case....lol....thanks fo ryour help mate, hell of a saving me thinks!!! :)
