Hello all,

Just got back from the dealers with my Leon Cupra, it needs a new gearbox.

I have had a nasty whine in 3rd for a little while now, I mentioned it on service but they said there wasn't much wrong with it. It has got worse so I have taken it back and they have now said it needs a new box....

How long should a gearbox last? I think I have driven ok since I have had it. Its a 53 plate with 80,000 most of the miles have been motorway.

Luckily its a company car but it only has 6 months of the lease left and I am going to purchase the car for my partner at the end of it term, I am just praying that the lease company will give the dealer the ok to fix it.

Cheers
Simon

It should last the life of the car, or at least double the mileage you have done so far. It's not unheard of for them to die earlier, but it's not common either.

Unfortunately I only got the car two weeks ago and it had already been done sorry! I do know it was a hell of a lot of money through Seat though, 800-900 quid!
