Shouldn't a service pick up brake wear?

Had my car serviced about 6 weeks ago, nothing much needed to be done (3 years old, only done 20k!)

Anyway, the brake pad warning light came on whilst driving home tonight, if it was that bad shouldn't they have picked it up during the service? Incidently, how much are brake pads to get fitted?

Gary, i am also hunting for new pads mate, so if you find anywhere that does ferredo DS2500 pads locally, please post up mate, im struggling here mate...

As for the service, i would think a visual inspection would be undertaken as a standard thing, then they would advise you need new pads, again adding to your service cost and making them money..

Where did you get your service done mate?? I went to a local garage for my 40k service...they took a chunk out of the front of my Brembo fitting my new pads, left greasey fingerprints over the car, and left the bonnet on the bloody catch as i discovered when i got home...i wont be going back......

They used to be pretty good with stuff when I had my Ibiza, but I know things slipped a bit when the old service manager died and I sold it shortly after so haven't been back for a while.

i work in a citroen dealership and if some one fails to pick up on worn pads on a service and the costomer complains about brakes going metal or warning light coming on the technician gets a roasting and the costomer gets the pads supplied and fitted for free. you dont pay all that money for an oil and filter change and your book stamping. you should get a check list of a multi point check (this is not a dealer thing. they are required to do this and supply you with the list by seats franchise rules) if you have already paid to have your pads done get back in touch with them and tell them your not happy and demand to know what you paid all that money for and you will get a discount off your next service
