My conundrum guys...

Going to the ring in May this year and have just about scraped together the cash to pull all the mods together to make the car tip top for the trip. Soon to have CC stage 2 with all the goodies (ko3s, forge FMIC etc etc), suspension and brakes are all tip top. Conundrum is that I still have the standard clutch which has done about 50k miles and still feels solid. However with the uprated bhp and torque I don't wanna get to the ring, do half a lap before the old girl goes. My current plan is wait till all the work is done, drive her hard and see how she fairs, if alls good go to the ring. Is this being overly optimistic as driving hard at the ring is gonna be a slightly different level (been 3 times so will be gunning the cupra hard :D). The other issue is cash, realistically gonna have to extend me overdraft (help me please nice Mr Bank Manager ) or get a loan to get an uprated clutch fitted before I go in May.

So your thoughts please, if it feels ok after the CC stage 2:

a.) risk it on standard clutch, I don't wanna go another grand into the red
b.) no way, fork out now and keep 5 days of racing clutch burn out free

Ultimatley if it feels ropey after the remap anyway I will need to get it done...

id say clutch should e fine! my old ko3s car has done about 80/90k now on the original clutch and has been mapped since 24k then ko3s since 32k! been driven very hard by me till about 65k then sold to my friend i then bought it back drove it very hard again and sold it to another m8!

my point is its not had an easy life at all still on standard clutch still goin strong!

Depends what kind of abuse your standard clutch has had but its hard to say whther it will be ok or not. You could get the parts for a G60 flywheel and vr6 clutch set up for about £200. Fitting on top but would save you some money over something like a spec clutch set up but would still be good enough for the power you will have.

if you dont need it...whats the point spending money you dont even have??

its not like your spec is too much for the standard clutch

if you find it starts slippin after the remap then it'll have needed changing soon enough without a remap. if it doesnt then dont bother...but if your gonna drive it hard around the ring then it'll prob need changing once you get home so do it then

mine was ok on k03s for 1 trip to the ring and 3 other trackdays and some 1/4 mile runs, only just died now, after hybrid k03s, and even that managed 1 more trip to the ring, one cadwell park trackday, and only gave up after a session at santa pod :D

so i'd say you'll be fine on k03s with standard clutch
