Hey guys ive been looking at a leon fr 150 or cupra tdi now for some time, ive been checking on fuel figures tax insurance etc.. i currently have a 2000 mk3 ibiza cupra k03s with all the mods running around 200-220 bhp, however i really like the leons and since ive had my car nearly 3 years now im looking at a change.

After reading loads of threads i get alot of mixed results on fuel comsumption tuning etc so wondering if you could clear a few things up before i make my mind up and go and get a leon. Im going to go and test drive one tomorrow if i get chance so that might persuade me a little. right anyways...

- what fuel consumption stead driving say 15mile round trip a day as i do ?
- tax cost £120?
- insurance is lower than my ibiza only just tho ataround £750 21 4 years no claims
-if i was going to get it mapped how much difference would the be between my ibiza? obv totally different cars weight wise but do you think a leon around 190bhp with a new clutch will be anywhere near as quick?
- what is the handling like on a leon diesel, much bigger car than my ibiza heavier and a heavier engine will equal to understeer but do they hold the road well? Will any handling mods be required front upper and lower s3 braces ive read are good for turn in etc..
- how much and what clutches are good enough as an upgrade, fittings fine as ill do it myself but cost of the parts?
- how much are remaps, same as a petrol at around £450+?
- do you fit induction kits, fmic's etc... or is standard with say a panel filter suffice.
- whats your views on high milage ones, been looking for around upto 50k tops but theres loads at 70-100k

very sorry for all the questons and im sure ill have more its just i dont want to sell mine to buy a leon and be disapointed and think why did i ever change.

Any comments and views are much appriciated :)

Test drive one and see if you like it.

Dont listen to petrol bummers... diesels CAN be fun, especially more "sporty" ones like the Leon FR.

They are just fun a different way to a revvy petrol.

You won't need a fmic as it has one as standard. I paid alot for my clutch because i wanted one which was smooth for setting off with a trailer on the back. mine was £500 but there are paddle versions which are much cheeper and once they've bedded in they are quite smooth apparently. If you get one a remap is a must. They are different to petrols in many ways to drive. As for your mpg it depends on the driver. Drive it like a petrol and you'll not see brilliant results, don't let it rev and you'll be quids in.
I don't know about the handling is like on the 150's but my 130 is ok, it won't be as good as your ibiza. A big improvment to mine was a set of eibach springs but there are antirole bar kits and the s3 braces you can fit. I haven't got round to those yet.
Its a different drive to a petrol though, put your boot to the floor on a hill especially and bye bye Mr golf gti. More so when you've mapped it.
Thats just my opinion others may think different, ('petrol bummers'). But i love my TDI.

Same here... I've had my Fabia VRS for just over a year now and everytime I get in and drive it I still love it to pieces.

I havnt even had it remapped yet and it still feels really fast to me.

Its not standard I've had the 312mm brakes and whiteline anti roll bar (both ESSENTIAL mods IMHO), as well as other bits and bobs and it RR'd at 145bhp and 238lb ft. its great and I'm looking forward to getting it mapped :)

Oh yeah and I regularly get 450 miles to a tank and I dont hang about either :)

Thanks for the replys, i drive many different cars everyday as im a ford technician so petrols, diesels, vans etc... so i know theres a big difference in power delivery etc however im just wondering if i will get bored of the diesel against my cupra, ill be fitting a new clutch and getting it mapped straight away just to give me anyway near the power as my ibiza just never been in a chipped diesel leon before never drove a standard one yet until hopefully tomorrow so will see how they drive and feel then, ive seen some people go stage 2 whats involved in this parts and cost etc... also effects on mpg, i usually drive one very miss daisy full tank then one as i feel tank lol stops me gettin bored or wasting too much fuel lol, i just really like the look of the leons and there a bigger car plus something different, what sort of combined mpg do you get and how much to fill a tank in a leon? i know diesels now 118.9 now where i live and petrols 106.9 but i fill my tank drive like miss daisy spee limit not above 60mph on motorway change gears early 2k max and still only get 300max out of a tank, so...

On a run mine will do at least 55mpg at 70mph and when im driving round with nothing better to do but rag the bachside out of my leon she'll still do 34+ mpg. But i do drive it hard when i rag it!

If i drove my leon like you then i would get 650 miles to a tank im sure. I get just shy of 500 to a tank at the moment. The map made mine a totally different car to standard. The power delivery was so much smoother and it pulls to the red line. A ford technician! I could do with some advice about my mums c-max.

HaHa a ford lol dont make me laugh :) as per your advice pm sent, the only fords that come with that power is the 2.0tdci c-max 145bhp and the mondeo ghia x or sttdci, both 2.2 tdci with 150bhp (or the new transit which should be comming out 200bhp diesel :) oh and they do a 4x4 transit too lol) anyways thanks for the replys i hope i like the leon tomorrow, my step bro had a 2003 leon 20vt cupra totally standard and my ibiza pissed all over that for fun, also is exactly the same as one of the lads at works bmw 535 3.5 twin turbo diesel 0-silly speeds no differnece side by side all the way, thats what i think im going to miss, just think over all a bigger better more comfortable car with good performance still but cheaper to run tax insure and servicing repairs well thats neither here nor there but... how much do you guys pay for clutches ie not fitted just the clutch kit itself, what make kits etc... need to be able to withstand 300+lbs/ft but maintaining drivability at slow speeds and pulling away, can stand paddle clutches either on or off.

I got my sachs clutch off allard and it was 500 quid. fitted the bugger myself. it was a pressure plate and the friction plate I can't remember what powers they said it would handle though.

Sounds like the 340ftlb rated clutch to me. I have a sachs organic clutch in my pd130 octavia and needed to keep the OEM feel and that's what was available.
