short shift fitting help please

Quick help if poss...
Just trying to put my new short shift on.
I've got all the bolts/clip off and noticed a white cover/clip thing to the right (just above the "2" in pic).
Does this need to come off first? I don't want to pull the shift off and then snap this in the process.

No you don't need to take it off. The shifter sits in it.

Undo the bolt and the when the shifter comes off you just take it out of this guide. The guide is fastened to the linkage not the shifter.

When fitting the new shifter just slip it into this guide and then put it over the bolt.

It's not the easiest thing to describe (as you may have gathered) but it's very straight forward to do. The hardest thing is getting the old shifter off the bolt, mine took some WD40, some wood and a hammer
