Afternoon..

I need to replace my shocks as passenger side has developed some additional movement.

I'd LIKE to do it myself but will take advice if it's a bad idea.. I have a reasonable selection of tools but I do not have a spring compressor.

I was planning on replacing the shocks, top mounts and bearings at the same time on boths sides and I read somewhere that as I'm replacing all parts, I don't need a spring compressor.. can anybody say if this is true, and if so why?

I was expecting it to be under some pressure from the spring at all times as I can't adjust the platforms out on my standard Cupra suspension. ....or am I missing something?

If your planing on taking the shock apart ie: removing the spring from the shock...then you will need spring compressor

But beware ive just been doing coilovers on mine and i cant for the life of me get my top mount bolt undone its so tight infact that i broke my tool from the pressure i put on it (its a snap-on tool aswell) :(

Cheers - I'm not planning on replacing the springs, so yeah I'll be taking them apart... and in that case I'm best off paying the £100 to save the hastle and requirement for the tool.

A shame as I like to do what bits I can.. but if it's once every 9 years this needs doing it doesn't seem so bad ;-)

I might actually be the first person ever in the Cupra to replace OEM shocks with more OEM shocks too. :)

I have some standard springs/shocks (33k) in the attic if you didnt want to by brand new, i done mine myself bit of cake really.

Remember its best to have a 4 wheel alignment after as doing the fronts will knock your camber out.
