Since the LCR boys are doing it in another thread, I was wondering what you guys in diesels shift up at. Esp in your car is revod. I find revo enables you to rev right up to redline. However I was told by revo dude to change at 3K:headhurt:

I take mine to 4k or just over most of the time and change there, there's no more to be had above that and you're just revving it for the sake of it. Interestingly enough mine doesn't smoke at all, not even on startup or when you boot it in the higher gears - wonder if that's because it's always driven right through the rev range, very rare to find me pootling along at 60 in 6th :) That hasn't changed with the CC remap either, if anything there's less need to rev it as high - could probably get away with changing at 3500 to be honest.

About 2.5k for normal driving, generally keep it between 1.5 and 2k when moving at a constant speed, whatever gear that is. If booting it I find 3.5k plenty enough, doesn't seem to respond any better going up to 4. Don't think I've ever been any higher. This is a standard FR TDi though, it's free revving for a diesel, but still does start to run out after 3500.

2nd takes me up to about 40mph, 3rd gear takes it up to about 60 if you change at 3500. Do it a lot and you'll see fuel consumption of around 35mpg.

Yup - i don't do partial throttle in mine, I sit outside work for 5 mins and let it warm up then the 15 mile drive home is done at full throttle in whatever gear / speed i can get up to between roundabouts. On a long run i'm up there at 46+ mpg, around town careful driving i'll see around 35mpg, but when i'm caining it it's down to 22mpg on the current reading which drags the average down to below 30. The front tyres tell the same story :)

I refuse to complain though, my old honda vtec would get 145 miles to £50. I'm getting around 300/350miles out of £50 in the LCtdi.

for fast progress use the peak torque which means shifing at 3k rpm to drop the revs back down to about 2k to get the torque again, as after 3k in a TDI the torque just tails off. But saying that if im clearing out the soot and excercising the turbo then i used 4k.

If im giving mine some beans. i change between 4k and 4.5-5k. On the old turbo i would take it to 5k all the time, that may be why it blew up  mine still pulls well all the way to the red line aswell. Also deprends on what fuel you use aswqell i have found as to ho w the car reacts. I have found that on texaco, i get a better throttle responce, and far less soot than on tesco stuff.
If driving normal, ill change at about 2-2.5k. On the way back from work sometimes, i see it as low as 16mpg average :roflmao: oooppps
