I talked with some dude in a 200SX who ran 20% E85 mix in his car and claimed to have a higher octane rating than the shell v-power. Also a Supra guy did the same but he mixed 15% E85 into his fuel. Ive read a little and most modern motors can handle up to 30% E85 mixed into the fuel with no problems.

A cheap way to gain octane rating or a cheap way to brake something expensive?

thanks im sure BP were gonna bring it over here long time ago but didnt in the end something to do with demand and just wouldnt of been profitable over here how much you pay per litre of fuel now

Shell do race fuel at selected stations around the country (mainly near race tracks) that is rated at 102Ron...

Actually I didn't think about economy this time. The 200SX guy told me bcs E85 has a ron rating of 105-ish it has less energy and the motor compensates by increasing fuel pressure. Mixed with V99 it had a good effect when racing he said. Gonna do some logs and see whats actually going on here..

I have run a mix of E85 and V power. It does up the ron rating and logs suggest it will let you advance the timing a touch hence increasing power. My source dried up so i,m not able to get any locally now.

7.5 litres per 55 litre tank. Any more and you risk damaging your injectors and possible fuel line corrosion.

thats what I thought as well, however this is more true with 70-100% E85. Have a read here:

E85 can cause damage, since prolonged exposure to high concentrations of ethanol may corrode metal and rubber parts in older engines (pre-1985) designed primarily for gasoline. The hydroxyl group on the ethanol molecule is an extremely weak acid, but it can enhance corrosion for some natural materials. For post-1985 fuel-injected engines, all the components are already designed to accommodate E10 (10% ethanol) blends through the elimination of exposed magnesium and aluminum metals and natural rubber and cork gasketed parts. Hence, there is a greater degree of flexibility in just how much more ethanol may be added without causing ethanol-induced damage, varying by automobile manufacturer. Anhydrous ethanol in the absence of direct exposure to alkali metals and bases is non-corrosive; it is only when water is mixed with the ethanol that the mixture becomes corrosive to some metals. Hence, there is no appreciable difference in the corrosive properties between E10 and a 50:50 blend of E10 gasoline and E85 (47.5% ethanol), provided there is no water present, and the engine was designed to accommodate E10. Nonetheless, operation with more than 10% ethanol has never been recommended by car manufacturers in non-FFVs. Operation on up to 20% ethanol is generally considered safe for all post-1988 cars and trucks.

I'll have a go at a 10% mix tho.

Having a mix of the two does have benefits, my mate uses it on his car and that will normally have a lot of issues pinking if he doesn't use either a combination of RON99 and E85 or RON99 and 105 RF. Pre-detention aside the cooling effect of the E85 helps and means he doesn't have to run water-methanol injection. It also allows the engine and turbos too overboost since the pre-det is a lot better and his PC ECU adjusts the timings accordingly

on a sidenote. I have a custom map for my mods and I have most mods available for the stock K04-23 turbo. How can I manually advance the timing?

Your probably stuck with your current settings then. I run Revo so can advance the settings to suit. Try logging channel 020 first to see if your getting an c/f,s
