Servicing

My mate's got a LC 1.8t that is due the 4 year / 40,000 miles service. Is it what ever is the earliest, so basically it's the age, as its only done 32,500 miles? Do you think it needs the cambelt changed, as I thought the recommended interval was 80k?
He also got some prices:
VW, Skoda & Audi don't service Seats, which I though was odd.

Got a quote from AmD at Lakeside and they quoted £175 for a major service plus £60 for brake fluid change, Cambelt was £300 +MOT, Total Cost £640

Hiddson Maidstone original quote was £295 for service without brake fluid change + Cambelt and MOT, total cost £636

Rang Hiddsons back and told them about AmD and they knocked their service quote down and added brake fluid change that would have cost £55+ for a total of £250, no change on cambelt so total cost is £588. A bit of a result but could have done without it.

What do you guys think? Shouldn't other VAG garages be able to service it? Anyone had a better price elsewhere? And does the cambelt have to be changed based on age, rather than mileage?

Cheers

Try TMC just near Canterbury. Service Manager is one of the guys on here (Roly). Very helpful, very knowledgable, and won't get fleeced!

Cheers, I had remembered them actually, think he's going to try them. Anyone any comments on whether they think the cambelt needs doing?

AmD replace the water pump with the metal impeller water pump. Which isnt something the main dealers will do as they will just replace it with the standard pump. So this needs to be taken into consideration when getting quotes.

He'll quote you for metal impaler so don't worry.

Like I said Roly is into all thingsSeat, he's transplanted a 1.8 20VT engine into a Mk2 Beeza I believe, so has a good knowledge!
