Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but as a new comer to this forum am after some advice re servicing of a 1 year old seat altea 1.9 tdi reference.

The car is due its first service,I have contacted Thompson and thompson who have quoted me £170 ,after looking at the service book there soesnt appear to be that much that needs to be done just oil changed and numerous checks.

Am I able to tak ethis to a mate to service using seat parts for a fraction of the cost or will this invalidate the warranty.

Is there any way of getting rid of the service spanner from dash board display?

Any advice please

Servicing spanner can be removed by doing that yourself: taken from the manual:

Service interval display
A Service pre-warning will appear in the mileage display if a service is due
soon. A “spanner” symbol appears and the display “km” with the distance
that can be driven until the next service appointment is due. The display will
change after approximately 10 seconds. A “clock symbol” appears and the
number of days until the service appointment should be carried out. The
following information text displayed in the instrument panel display: SERV. IN
... KM OR ... DAYS. The service message will disappear approximately 20
seconds after the ignition is switched on or the engine is running. The normal
display can be resumed by pressing the reset button on the trip counter or by
pressing the rocker switch of the MFI page 61, fig. 39 .
With the ignition switched on, you can call up the current service message by
pressing the trip counter reset knob for 2 seconds.
An overdue service is indicated by a minus sign in front of the mileage or day
information.

there are many reset procedures on this in the forum. search for reset service.

as to warranty you need to usually get a Seat Dealer to service the car to allow the warranty to continue. I would however shop about between dealers as prices do vary.

Not true, use genuine seat parts, just go in and buy them or let the garage doing it buy them, and make sure the garage you do go to is VAT registered, you then have a fully intact warranty!

You don't even need Seat parts. Part of the Block Exemption Ruling is that any part can be used as long as it is of the same specefication. I had my Fabia vRS serviced for less than half the price of a dealer and they used good quality Fram filters and GM oil.

The Altea is being serviced on Monday (10k service) and my local garage are doing it for £90.00. Didnt even bother asking Seat in Caldicot for a price as i know they won't go anywhere near that price.

What exactly do you get from a dealer to warrant paying nearly double???

They may not hover and wash it for me but i can get that done pretty cheaply as well!
