My 40,000 servicing is approaching... I've decided to do the service myself.

The service manual isn't being helpful as the Seat dealerships which have serviced it up until now have not ticked what has and hasn't been done!

So this time I have decided I'm going to do it myself I done all my previous servicing myself and had no problem.

I'll get my oil change done at kwik-fit or something similar. What oil do I go for, Semi Synthetic, Fully synthetic??

My friend works in an Autospares shop so can source me parts fairly cheaply, if you have a look at the image below.

1. I've no idea is this a diesel filter or what? Should I change this?
2. Air filter, I've removed this before, shouldn't be a problem.
3. Pollen filter, should I change this? How do you get into it?

Thanks,

Chris

On mine, the pollen filter is accessed inside the cabin, behind the glovebox. Assume that being VAG its in a similar position on yours?

Would be worth (while KwikFit have it in the air) doing an inspection of the brakes and other gubbins under there - exhaust etc.

In part 1 you've highlighted the fuel filter, almost certain of that. On mine its every 20k, so at 40k it should be changed (does your service book say it was done at 20k?, and I guess not at 30k? - Then it will need doing)

That definately looks like the fuel filter to me and mine was changed at 40k as per the service book.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Nothing has been ticked off but the car has been serviced at Seat, so I'll change it to be on the safe side... I thought I would be able to remove the pollen filter from the outside? I'll have a poke about.

The brakes were done at 35K as they kept squeeking, new pads all round so should be OK there... and if the exhaust needs done I got a quote for £290 for a full stainless system (from the turbo back) and that has a lifetime garuntee.

For the pollen filter you undo the three plastic screws on the trim section that pulls out, pop up the rain guide inside then unclip the frame which holds the filter in. Make sure it al goes back properly or your car will fill up with water.

Also makes sure you remove and debris and leaves from under there so the drain holes are clear.

40k should be,

Oil
Oil filter
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Pollen Filter
Sump bung

And you seem to have marked them all ok, the oil filter is under the engine cover, undo the black plastic cap to access.

techie pretty much said it all.
you access the pollen filter from outside, #1 is the fuel filter.
Only things I feel to add are:
-go for fully synth oil, do a search for the specifics but for the 110 it shold be 500.00 or 500.01 VAG compliant,,, I always forget about that,,, anyway, there's a sticky at the top of the section.
-you deffo don't need a new exhaust,,, are you kidding? new exhaust at 40k???

I done my service yesterday, took it to a local garage for the Oil, Oil Filter and they changed the sump bung too.

I got a Air filter, Pollen filter and Fuel filter for £20 from a local spares shop my friend works in, all fitted and working well, you don't realise how much different your car is until its done.

I've noticed on this post Russ thought the brake fluid should also be changed, should I change that too or is that OK for the meantime?

What should I need to do for my 50k next year?

Brake fluid should be changed every two years, regardless of mileage. It can absorb water whether the vehicle is being driven or not.

You don't plan on driving much THIS year, do you?
