Service interval warning - lies!

I had my TDI serviced about 9 months ago, and like everyone else I expect I'm on the 10k fixed intervals (which works out at 9.5 due to the mile/km thing). Since then I have done about 4500 miles, so not really due a service BUT tonight the 2000 mile service warning message came on!

Now clearly something is not quite right here as this is far too early, but I was wondering whether the service warning comes on just for the mileage? Would it come on for the condition of the oil, like the variable ones do aswell? I drive about 5 miles to work, so the engine gets up to full temp easily, so I can't see the oil suffering that much. I also do longer journeys once every couple of weeks to give it a good run.

Has anyone come across this before?

service intervals are based on mileage or time....whichever comes first.

afaik the oil condition shouldnt trip the service alert. maybe ring a dealer and check?

Mine's always come on a bit early with my TDI. I'm sure someone told me it was crap calculation based on the km/mile conversion or something like that. I've just had my 2000 mile reminded come on now as I've passed 53k but the stealer tells me my next service isn't due until about 57k. I've learned to live with it - it's no biggy...

is it too early ? dont forget its time or mileage whatever is first

4500/9 months = 500 a month

at current rate of miles/time you are 3 months(1500 miles) away from next service

not that far off i reckon ?

you can reset service reminder by turning the trip odometer thingy i think it's right but could be left when you turn iginition on- i'm always doing it because the usual crap seat dealer forgets

The reset instructions are in your car manual, by the way :)

I THINK (from memory)

Hold switch to the right - turn off ignition (still holding it) turn ignition on and keep holding for about 2 seconds...
