Ok bought my car and it said it had been serviced at 46k

its now on 53k and the service thingie has started flashing. is this a case of no being reset when it was serviced before selling to me or is it a case of somethings gone wrong and triggered the light . or does it simply need a service.

Its a 2005 model TDI 110 :)

also my mpg is terrible i cant get over 450 miles per tank. would this be to do with a service. Im thinking of getting a green panel filter would this help a bit?

It could be that the light needs resetting - when was the car serviced last - if it's been a year the car will need servicing despite not having done 10k miles yet.

I'm pretty sure the procedure for resetting the light is in the manual

I bought it in march and they said it had just been serviced. Im miles away from the service manual atm but ill take a wooky tomorrow see whats up with it. Couldnt hurt to get a service done i suppose.

The service light's easy to reset - they seem to be a bit temperamental.

I covered 21k miles in my Ibiza in 11 months and the service light didn't ever come on. I asked at the stealers about it both times when it was being serviced and they didn't really know why they sometimes work and sometimes don't.

450 miles does sound very low for a TDI - I get that from the 1.4 petrol in my Leon

EDIT - Fuel tank is 55 litres on the Leons

Hey James

My light is on and I havnt got a manual (tried to get one from crappy IMG seat) if you get the service thing off give us a pm about it please :).

I only get around 500 to the tank and thats not full full! but telling us how many litres you put in will be easier to figure out how well your doing.

First place to check when you have low MPG is the tyres.....

What can you be sure about what this "Service" included, I got my car 50k(had its prper service at 46K) but was told it had a "service" when bought but I changed the oil at 54, 55k cos I know what I would do if I owned a garage.!!!!!

thats what im thinking , the car came from a car supermarket and im sure they would have just dne a quick check im gonna look in my service history tomorrow and see what it says.

I put about 45 litres in so its about 40mpg.

Tyre rpeasures are all at 38. But i do have some 18" wheels on it now i wondered if that affects it.

Ive decided to change the filter and bought a green thingie one. i also had a look last night and removed some leaves from the air intake :$

i dont think im very economic i have ac on all the time and my stereo but it still seems a bit low.

The 18" will make all the difference and I usually get 500+ with 50L+ try the pressure realise thingie inside the "fill up hole". ha

should be able to fit 50L+ in. Try reseting the ECU to I'm gonna get a fuel filter tonight then reset.
