Sensor Faults Mk1

Had the car a month and its been great.
Last week the emisions/engine light came on on the dash. At the same time as this, power dropped and fuel consumption has almost doubled. If the car is sat and revved up for a few minutes you see the petrol gauge move. There is no obvious sign of petrol out the tailpipe.
When idling, the engine sounds to be struggling to keep running, but is ok when the revs are up a bit.

So in the garage it went. They ran the diognostic and it came up with a temp sensor fault, this was replaced and the light went out and car had its usual power again.
I drove 5 miles home and parked up, next morning, started it up and the light was on again.
Back to the garage, this time it was coming up with a lamda fault. The garage want to replace it. I am thinking that the temp sensor and lamda are seperate, unrelated faults. Could it just be a coincidence or could it be another problem?
Has anyone experienced similar problems and managed to cure them and why is the car drinking petrol so much?

Apreciate any help.

I would say the lamda sensor was the main fault causing the problems to start with.

There are 2 sensors so make sure they replace the correct one :)

It looks like you where right, but they replaced both sensors. the bill was more than i had hoped.
Oh well, its running much better now and fuel consumption is 2-3 times more :)

Now a few mods can be done.
