The passenger seat is sliding away on its rails and doesn't lock into a fixed position. Car did have broken glass on that side, so is it some that has got trapped in the rails and blocking the mechanism? If so, is it a seat out job?

i had glass on my rails, when my old mk4 got broken into, but it just worked it's way loose, the glass gets everywhere i was still finding bits a year on :(, you say they broke the passenger window, but i would check the drivers door lock, i didn't notice it had been attacked too until a couple of weeks later:redface: .
looked as if they tried to do the old veedub screwdriver trick to get the windows to roll down :censored: b*st*rds. know how you must be feeling mate? not good. hope you get it sorted:)

I would think the most likely explanation is that a piece of glass has got into the wrong place and blocked the mechanism. I would have a poke around before you attempt to remove the seat.

The other possibility is that the easy access system has got out of sync. There is a little block which slides on the left hand rail. The mechanism disconnects from this when you tilt the seatback forwards to allow the seat to be pushed forwards. When you raise the seatback and pull the seat backwards it should click into this block in the original position. If the block has been moved out of position it is possible it can't latch back correctly, so it might be worth sliding the block backwards or forwards to see if that helps.

I think that is right, from memory, but I might be talking rubbish again.:D

slightly off topic, but when my passager seat slides forward when accessing the back it dosen't return to it's original position, it resets right back as far as it will go, would this be a problem with this block thingy

PS the easy access passanger seat is actually an option i believe and not standard on all 3 doors iirc?

I've found on mine that you have to return the seatback to the vertical position before you slide the seat back or it doesn't engage properly.

I think all 3 door FRs came with the easy access system but it's an option on some of the lower spec models.

Seat was stripped down last night by my mate who works for Audi and it appears one of the catches is broken. So took it into Seat today and is booked in on Wednesday, although they were trying to fob me off with the excuse that there will be glass in the runners causing it to be blocked and so will likely be charged for it. I know there was no glass in the runners as we looked and took it apart!

Took the car into Seat on Wednesday and they have stripped the seat down and it needs a new base, so I am presuming by this they mean the mechanism. No glass was in it and it is being done under warranty. They have locked the seat in position so its not sliding around so just waiting to hear from then when the part is in now.
