Hello buddy
Welcome!
Well, the remap is the best pound-for-pound mod, straight out of the box.
Although "chipping" is technically acceptable as a term, what you're actually paying for is an ECU Remap through the serial port. Lots of companies offer remaps for arpund the £450-500 mark. (Stage 1/Phase 1 Remaps). Try Revo, Custom Code, APR etc.
The 180BHP 1.8T 20v Cupra will remap to 205~ BHP straight away. That's timing changes, fuel and air mix adjustments and turbo boost pressure increase. Not a bad jump, considering the relative cheapness of the remap. You can tailor your remap to suit your preferences, if you speak to some of the vendors.
From that point onwards, it's the usual modification path... Replacement filter elements (higher air flow one) or an induction kit/forced induction kit. Then the full stainless exhaust system, turbo or cat-back.
Replacing the standard pipe-work to and from the turbo and intercooler is a worth-while mod, as is replacing the standard Bosch recirculating dump-valve. Forge are generally regarded as the first point of contact for the new DV and they're now supplying what they call a Split-R valve. (Both recirculating and atmospheric purges). So we get the characteristic woosh without too much affect on the fuel-air mix that your engine is expecting.
Then you've got ARBs and suspension upgrades. Koni, H+R etc.. all good brands for this stuff; tried and tested.
There are a whole host of performance parts available for the 1.8T 20v lumps as they were utilised in a variety of cars.
Enjoy.
