Specifications for the range have been revealed.

(Note this is European specifications always check with main SEAT dealer in the UK for up to date specs, as we know some stuff we get some stuff we don't)

Some light reading for you. :)

http://www.seatcupra.net/NEWLeon-june2005update.htm

Most intertesting is they have announced the 2.0 FSI Turbo engine will debut in the range towards the back end of the year, as a Sport Up specification, reduced in power to only deliver 185bhp  , no word as yet on FR or Cupra models.

Looks alright in silver too. im tempted for sure :)

Thought this was interesting, wonder how that will work in practice on the FR and Cupra.........although I'm not holding out any hopes it will sound like an R32 or V8 ;)

An ultra-sporty sound. The sportiness of the new León cannot just be felt, it can be heard too. The engine sound is an identifying feature of a model's sporty character. In the case of the new León, the exhaust sound has been entrusted to SEAT Sound, a system that blends a balanced sound at high engine speeds with a sonorous, sporty sound at low revs. The resulting acoustic sensation can be experienced both inside and outside the car. The perception of the sporty sound and engine power has been accentuated when:
pulling away from standstill, manoeuvring at low speeds and accelerating or braking when fully laden at low rev speeds.

The level of exhaust sound amplification gradually reduces until it ceases altogether above 2,500 rpm, ensuring that it remains imperceptible to the vehicle's occupants at higher rev speeds and does not become an irritation on long journeys so that travel comfort is not impaired in any way.

cant encroach on the golf gti now tho can it tut tut ;)

Well Seat, Lambo and Audi are the sporting side of things wth VAG not VW. ;)

But lets not kid ourselves as to who makes the rules, and what politics are probably at work. Treading on VW toes (AGAIN) would probably be frowned upon in Wolfsburg.

Sophisticated ESP. Several key innovations have been incorporated into the Electronic Stability Program (ESP). The EDL Electronic Differential Lock, EBA Emergency Brake Assistance and O-HBV hydraulic pressure booster (for automatic models only) are now joined by a series of new systems:

• Overboost, which increases brake pressure without any notable change in the force that the driver has to apply the brake pedal when the system temperature far exceeds normal operating temperatures.
• BSW, which cleans the brake discs regularly whenever the windscreen wipers are switched on.
• Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) which helps to keep the vehicle on the correct course in critical handling situations.
• Trailer Stability Program (TSP), a system which will become available in the future.

The Traction Control System (TCS) now includes an anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and ASR wheel-slip regulation.

 Cleans its discs :p

Sport-up equivalent to current FR then?

2.0T FSI should remap well...

Bit slow 0-60

maybe, the old Top Sport (in Europe) became the FR on the old Cupra, but I think the FR will somehow fit above that over time, with power power courtsey of ECU tweak and the the Cupra

My thoughts too Andy, I think the Sport-up is nothing more than a top of the current range filler, ie bit better than a sport or stylance, few extra bits.

FR will follow these possibly with the reported 200bhp and then the Cupra appearing with its reported 240bhp.

I think its a smart move by SEAT and any range that has (ulitmately) has three different specifications of the same turbo engine isnt't too shabby!

Does this mean there will be a Cupra version some time down the road with a higher output? Say 230Bhp (Same as the rumoured Golf GTi lite)?

It's all guess work at this stage but the rumours are (as Z said)

Top sport may evolve into or be superseded by the FR with a reported 200bhp and then the Cupra appearing later with its reported 240bhp.

they've also just put all this effort into the FR brand with the Ibiza and current Leon, so I supect a seperate FR version will appear at some point.

With the new Focus RS etc and things like Golf R32 and Audi RS3, the Cupra could be pretty wild

pull up, engine off - flash your lights & they stay on for 30 secs or so - this means you can get to the door of your house in time.
