Seat Leon towing hook ?

Hello Forum.

This is my first post so I would also like to say hello to everyone.
This being the only english forum for Seat Leon owners in Europe I decided to join , even if my Leon is not a Cupra (maybe one day :p ).

So first I would like to say hello everyone and nice to be here.

Now , here comes also my first newb question :
As I bought a house need to put a towing hook on the Leon.
Many stores sell some wiring kits with 7 or 13 pins.
What is the difference between the 7 or 13 pin ?
Do I need to have a kit for integration with CAN BUS ?

I'm gonna install it myself so I need all the tips I can get.

Thank you in advance.

7 pin is for small trailers

13 pin has working reverse lights etc ... usually for caravans

Is yours a new Leon, or the 98-2004 model ? I've got a wiring kit for the mk1 Leon and it just plugs in between the connectors hidden behind the panel in the boot (where the 12v supply plug is) really easy :D

I think the newer Leons require some electrical trickery - CANBUS, or similar to avoid bulb failure warnings

Yep , it's a new 1.9 Stylance.
So I guess no way for me to put a caravan after me :)

Hmmm , I'll then buy one with 7 pins.
Any ideea if the kit has to be CAN BUS connected or it can go as always ? (Mean wire to wire , jack to jack)

I've got a towing relay kit on the Toledo which says it's suitable for vehicles with bulb failure systems

Don't know if there's anything else to be aware of on the newer VAG models though

also, the power supply from the 12v supply in the boot (if the new Leon even has one) probably won't be sufficient, so you've got to run your own cable through the car from the battery/fuse box

Hey TllEWL.

Thank you for the link and reply.

I guess the CAN BUS way it is then. It's a pain now with the CAN BUS and aftermarket installs and I was affraid I will have to pull the power from the battery or somewhere in the boot (have bad experience with breaking the panels) but hopefully will go ok.

The kits sold on ebay are for Altea / Leon / Toledo so I guess it's the same for all cars.
Did you installed by your own or had it installed at dealer ?

So I'll order my kit tomorrow and make a nice how-to with pics.

Thank you again.

Actually did mine myself, but I'd already fed a 0awg cable (about 11mm thick) into the boot for an ICE install/battery relocation anyway .... which I still haven't done

My (pct) kit came with a load of scotchlocks which just clamp round the existing wires into the rear lights - didn't take long to do

Worth reading the instructions though, cos I just connected all the coloured wires into their labeled terminals and then spent at least a couple of hours trying to figure out why all the wrong lights were illuminating
(the white one goes to an earth, not the white foglight terminal)

Hehhe , electric installations can be a bit tricky sometimes but I do car installs since 98 so won't be such a big problem :) but did not played so much with the new CAN BUS system beside my Clifford securtiy system.

Are there any pre-made holes to pull the wires up or it required some drilling ?
