Seat Leon TDI FR Diesel Contamination Advice Needed?

I fill up at my tesco garage every 2 weeks. Last time I filled up was on Sunday. I have since driving 200-300 miles since then. Anyway last night I drove for about 20 seconds turned round the corner and my car went dead. I thought maybe I never had enough power to keep it going in 3rd. Anyway I tryed to start the car and it wont start. Error message coming up saying engine fault contact workshop. And the orange rope on the dash is flashing yellow.

Got the car into SEAT today. They 1st came to say it was a dodgy wire. After a bit they came out with some diesel in a glass and are stating its been contaminated. I know that I have not put any petrol in there. They aint quite saying its petrol but it has been contaminated.

Then they bought out another glass of someone elses diesel. The other one did smell stronger and was a little bit clearer but nothing else.

Anyway they are going to flush the diesel out my car and put new diesel in there. And if the car starts then they are going to put it down to this. They said it wont be covered by the warranty if this is the case.

Feel like I been robbed if this is the case how can my diesel be contaminated. They said I would have to take it up with TESCO who I fill up with every 2 weeks.

I just hope it does not come down to that and its something else.

What do you guys think anyone had any problems with this error on the dash or with contaminated diesel?

Well its happened before as we all know and have heard in the news not so long ago. Just cross your fingers that with fresh diesel the engine starts and no long term damage has been caused. This is the main reason I hardly ever use supermarket fuel. But at the end of the day its Tesco's fault not Seat's, make sure you get a sample of the contaminated diesel.

I don't think supermarkets are better or worse than any other filling stations. My dad bought some petrol for his Saab from a local (non supermarket) petrol station and it turned out to have water in it from a faulty pump or something. Anyway, it caused no end of hassle to get it sorted out.

I hope you get yours fixed quickly, dellboy...

Yes I will get a sample of it.

But how can a simple code turn out to be contaminated diesel.

The last time I filled up was Sunday just gone and have done say around 300 miles on it since.

Never once had any signs or any problems with the car.

Am sure you cant drive 300 miles on contaminated diesel?

Maybe someone else can advice me on this also.

I am still hoping its not contaminated diesel and is osmething else. Ill be shocked to find out if it is how can TESCO get away with this.

Did your dad get his repair costs back?
I believe so, yes. I think the AA guy who first saw the car when it abruptly stopped gave him some advice on how to phrase a firm letter to the garage in question and when he contacted them, they were very apologetic and admitted they'd had several people report the issue to them and had now fixed the problem. It was a few years ago now, but I think they paid his repair bill.

But it wasn't the cost so much as the hassle. :(

200-300 miles? I guess it depends what it was contaminated with. Hope you get it sorted, and its something minor with little hassle for you.

As said, 200-300 miles  depends what it is contaminated with and how much contamination there is.

Last time I heard about this at Tesco it was contamination with silicone I think.

when i got my Leon TDi, i managed to get them to pay for 3 years warranty(via warrantywise.com) and i made them put the fuel contamintion cover in there aswell.
Personally i know the difference between diesel and petrol but if the missus borrowed the car....well who knows what would happen.

"Am sure you cant drive 300 miles on contaminated diesel?"

Is it possible that the fuel filter was absorbing the crud for those 300 miles and then when the filter was choked full the fuel starting going through the bypass and that's when the contamination hit the engine?

Am not sure what happened as SEAT have the car now. They have not updated me on any progress so is no news good or bad news these days?

I left them about 12pm and they was gonna flush out the diesel and put new diesel in. I assume this does not take 5 hours?

I dont what it could be. I hope it something of nothing and its fixable under the warranty.

**UPDATE**

They did the flush and put new diesel in the car wont start. Still not managed to start it now. Rang me just before 6pm they advise they are concetrating on the main relay and if this is the problem they would look to get it done on the warranty as its a very big job apparently. So feeling even worse then I did before..
