Seat Leon (2001) FOOTWELL LEAK - AT WITS END

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum as I have just purchased a 51 plate Seat Leon.

Installed an amp and had to remove the pollen filter, Long story short -- I didnt put the seal back on correctly and got water leaking into the front passenger footwell.

I realigned the seals and it has stopped the front passenger swimming pool :D

But i am still getting leaks on the driver side footwell

When sitting in the car if i look towards the roof and run my hand from the driver side window to the front windscreen it is in the corner where the leak is coming from.

I have got a hose out and poured it over the front windscreen at the driver side in the corner and it leaks into the car.

So i decided to get some silicone sealant and run a bead across the top of the windscreen in between the metal roof and the windscreen but this hasnt worked either.

Any ideas guys, I love the car but these leaks if not fixed are going to cause me so many more problems down the line. [:@]

Also just noticed in the rear that the footwell behind the passengers front seat is soaking wet. But the footwell behind the driver seat is dry!!!!!

Driver footwell leak

I used that guide and actually took the door panels off and run a bead of sealant around the door as indicated by the picture where Andy_Tech has drawn in a yellow line around the door. But it hasnt fixed the problem.

Im not sure if it is the door as the picture attached shows. (Not my vehicle but used for an example)

A way for you to check the silicone has worked is remove door card, run water on the outside of the window and see if it passes through the drain holes or where the silicone is. Hope you get it sorted not nice swimming while driving!!

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but my old LC started leaking about 6 months after I bought it and I never stopped it getting in. It was covered by a dealer warranty and they replace all sorts and made it a little better but the footwells were always wet after a decent rainstorm.

Following all the advice on this forum will help you reduce it though.

that is really bad ElasticTangent. Surely the leaks are fixable, How could SEAT allow for this to be a problem, its not just on SEAT's it seems that alot of the cars in the VAGroup suffer from this problem.

Im not sure if my dealer warranty will cover this as they may say it is wear and tear. I purchased the car from an independant dealer and had 3 months warranty. The problem is the dealer is 120 miles away!!!

With SEAT the orginal 3 year warranty covers the seals but the extended 12 month jobbie you get does not.

With the Leon the leaks were bad on certain year cars. I see yours is a 51 and mine was an 02. They obviously learnt some lessons when they face lifted the range so you'd have though they'd know where the problems were.
