Seat Leon 1.9TDI Stylance Advice

Hello,

I currently have a saxo 1.4 and im nearly 100% desided on the new 1.9TDI stylance.

I have sold my saxo as i want something which is better "qualaty" and does not feal like im driving a car made from mettle gurders welded together. If i get the leon then i will be leaving it standard.

Im 18years old, so the 2.0tdi is a bit to expensivet o insure for me + i have test driven the 1.9.

-Is there much diffrence between the 1.9 and 2.0 TDI?
-I will be keeping the leon of about 3 years.. will i get fed up of it?
-Is the 1.9 TDI slow and sluggish comperd with other cars?
-Is it much cheaper on petrol than.. say my saxo 1.4 petrol? (44mpg)
-What is it like to park (its much bigger than my saxo and im not used to bigger cars)?
-Is there any extra features that are recommended? (it comes with the bluetooth kit as extra)
-Will it start rattling after 3 months?
-Anything that i should look out for?

From the test drive, i love the car but im a bit of a worrier.

Any other information on the car would be greatly apreciated,

Thanks :)

-Is there much diffrence between the 1.9 and 2.0 TDI?

I'd say the 1.9 is rougher (I've had a 130pd ibiza sport and a leon fr 2.0tdi). Possibly more tunable for the money though. I get the impression the move to 2.0 was to appease the emissions monitoring people rather than being more efficent or more performance.

I'd probably want it chipped when you get bored. The wave of torque from the TDI will impress you though. Esp. after a 1.4 saxo.

-Is it much cheaper on petrol than.. say my saxo 1.4 petrol? (44mpg)

My FR TDI averages about 42, 39 when i drive it harder. I'd say the 1.9 might be a little better than 44 but maybe not much.

-What is it like to park (its much bigger than my saxo and im not used to bigger cars)?

It will seem big (I've always had smaller cars too for 20 years of driving) but not impossible.

thanks

It says on the stats for the 1.9 that the MPG is 57. Will i actually get this, or is that an optomsitic figure?

What is the 1.9 like on motorways cruising at 70-80? (i havent been able to drive it like this)

any more info on the car?

My 1.9 PD150 mk4 golf is remapped & returns +/- 52mpg

I'm getting the impression the 2.0 returns mid 40's

The ibiza 130 we had returned about 50ish (maybe more) in normal usage. I'm a little disappointed with the FR TDI fuel consumption really. If you want fuel economy I think the 1.9TDI is a better choice. In terms of emissions and chucking out less smoke the newer engine (particularly with the DPF) is a better choice.

Hi

Just got a Leon myself this week and for the money I think it's the best hatch you can buy for driver enjoyment, refinement, styling and they are not too common!

If you can afford it I would go for the 2.0 as it's a newer engine and having test driven both it's more refined - and obviously quicker! Considering it's 35 bhp down the 1.9 is no slouch and the torque certainly pulls you along nicely.

My 2.0 is doing 41mpg plus after 3 days and on my journey to work this morning did 55mpg! 15 Miles on the A605, 30-50MPH with a couple of full throttle overtakes, quite hilly and 4 roundabouts. I was suitably impressed, much better than the BMW 120d.

The major issue with parking is the front as the bonnet slopes away sharply but it's very light steering helps with parking. You just get used to it.

As for options I would steer clear of the Sport back unless you must have the more clingy seats, bigger wheels as the standard seats are perfectly good and the suspension is better on the 16's. I have Bluetooth which is superb and gives you the Audi size display with more info and if I bought new I'd go for the Convenience pack as I'm lazy and Xenons if you can afford it.

There are plenty of nearly new cars about so worth checking the internet for any deals. The stealers will want to offload stock before March so a good time to buy used!

Good luck

Edd

thanks,

Im selling my car tomorow, which means i can ring up the garage and let them know im buying it.

The 1.9 is Group 6 insurance, and the 2.0 is 9.. which is quite a bit considering there is only 2 secodns diffrence in 0 to 60, so im sticking with the 1.9 as it also had better mpg.

Can't wait :D

I've test driven the 1.9 and the 2 litre and I (like yourself) just can't justify 3 insurance groups and 2 secs difference at the low end to spend an extra £2K on the 2 litre.

I recommend you buy the 1.9 (as I just have) and drive it for a month. If you still need a bit of extra push, fork out a quarter of the money you saved on a quality chip to get you that extra 25 bhp and a smoother power delivery across the range.

The Leon is a great compromise of style and speed for those of us who ain't got money to burn on a hot hatch and don't want to spend tons on insurance.

Leave your Saxo behind and invest wisely (like a sad old git) but have some more fun at the same time.
