Alright fellas,

I am having problems with my 1.4 2006 Ibiza DAB Edition, There is an Engine Management fault light that comes on every now and then. After cleaning the throttle body and replacing the MAF Sensor I am going to try cleaning or Blanking off the EGR Valve, has anyone done this?

The car seems to bog down every now and then under acceleration,

Has anyone else had this problem or would anyone be able to help?

Sorry about my first post being so bland! I will liven up at a later date..

Cheers!

Do you have any fault codes? Check the spark plug leads aren't damaged, I had a car once that had no power under acceleration due to a damaged spark plug cable

I don't have the means to check the fault codes at the minute mate. I'll do a visual check on plugs and cables, is there anything I should know when cleaning the EGR?

Cheers

Hello!

A couple of things maybe to avoid you spending some money, my wife had a late 2002 Polo 1.4 from new and it never ever needed its EGR valve cleaning out, though I did replace it with a NOS via ebay to try to resolve another issue which it did not.

That car does not have a MAF sensor, it is a MAP sensor, and the car's ECU seems to be quite fussy about which brand of MAP sensor you fit, ie stick with OEM which is Magnet Marelli.

Personally I'd remove the plugs - or just replace them and scan the car for cylinder misfires which might point to coil on plug issues, or in the worst case maybe even injector problem.

I'm guessing that there is no fault indicators getting switched on?

BTW, this sort of posting is better created in the main section of this forum for that age of car, ie not in the FAQ section - as that section is for FAQs, you should get better exposure in that section.

Just another thing, have you disconnected the TBA assembly to clean it and maybe forced the motorised flap, if so, it now might be U/S - also, it helps to perform "basic settings" on some of these items after having them off the car for cleaning etc.

Edit:- blanking off the EGR valve is something that people do to DERV engines, this is a petrol engine.

I'd definitely look to get a scanner for the fault code even if its just a generic OBD II bluetooth one rather than VCDS for instance. Which engine code is yours? I have a BBZ which has been a nightmare but is running great now. However the internet is full of info in the BBZ and similar AUB engine which appear to be very fussy about everything:

Coil pack failures, coolant temp sensor problems, vacuum leaks and the worst which was my case exhaust valve failure.

The throttle body is surprisingly robust and the Skoda manual for these engines suggests opening the valve by hand and jamming open with a small piece of wood and cleaning the throttle body valve and inside with a brush and acetone. I did this with no problems but the engine performs best if adapted afterwards with VCDS.

Also I'd hope your air filter is renewed or clean? If very dirty could affect performance.
