Seat Ibiza Climate Control

Hi all, I've got a problem with my girlfriends Ibiza (2001) Climate control/Air Con.

Basically it’s not cooling. Before taking it somewhere to be checked out is there anything that I should check first?

One thing that I have noticed is that the ambient temperature shown at the top left hand corner of the climate control/radio screen is blank... well its just has dashes _ _ _ _

Am I right in thinking that if the climate control doesn't know what temperature it is outside it can't work out what temperature to cool too??

Does anyone know where the sensor is located so I can make sure it’s connected? Or any other suggestions of what the problem could be?

Thanks

Under the wing mirror? Under the casing? Which side?
Sorry, bit of a noob with the Ibiza.

Passenger side, its the little knoby bit that sticks out at the bottom. 2 torq bits and unscrew the bottom of the wingmirro and your there.

Its a very common fault for the sensor to go and it does make the climate controll misfunction. My sensor went, i think a replacement is about £20 from seat and its an easy job to fit.

Thanks for the reply. Just had a quick go and couldn't get the casing off, is there a particular way it comes off? Will have another go when not trying to scab 5 mins in the car park.

Also while we're talking about wing mirrors, are they supposed to fold in? Because these don't want to? They're not electric folding so I assume that they should just fold in manually.

Thanks

Hi, I've managed to take the wing mirror to bits and tested the continuity between the 2 wires from the sensor and to the back of the head unit. I get a signal but not on the wires I was expecting....anyway. I'm assuming that the connection is fine so come to the conclusion that it’s the sensor. Does anyone know where to get one from? I've rung 2 Seat dealers both really quite unhelpful. Is this the sort of thing that you could pick up from Maplin?

Thanks

My external temp sensor is broken too, waltzed into Autoworld in sheffield and they got me one right there and then, cost me about £15 if i remember rightly. I'm pretty sure it's a dealer only thing and not something you can just pick up anywhere though. Try going into a Seat parts dept and see if you get any joy you never know they may have one in stock.

Hi again, I have now managed to replace the temp sensor in the wing mirror and the display on the climate control/radio head unit is displayed correctly – WOO HOO!

The problem I have now is, I still think that the AC isn't working. The air is no cooler when the AC is on or off. One thing I have noticed is that when you first press the AC button the "AC" text appears on the screen, it stays there for a couple of seconds and then starts flashing. I'm sure that last year when it was working the AC text wasn't flashing. Anyone know why this would be flashing and if this is the reason why it’s still not cooling?

Thanks

there is also a hose that is prone to splitting that runs along the bulkhead (check for dampness behind the passenger footwell)

Just replaced mine in my ICR, what a pain in the arse, there was me thinking it would be simple as taking the wing mirror to bits and replacing oh no, I couldn't be arsed to pull the whole door card to bits so just chopped the old one out and soldered the new one in, works like a charm! but took me a lot longer than the 10 mins I allocated to myself!
