Seat diagnostic tool-help

I'm in to buy diagnostic tool for my 2006 Seat Altea 2.0TDI SpEd, but the one without using laptop. At first is this clever or not??? Why is (if it is)
laptop diagnostic tool better???
Does anyone have the one without PC, which diagnostic do You use???
I'm in for VAG 5053 or Maxi Scan ms409 or something else...You name it please...

Do I need CAN-BUS for my Altea or only a OBD2 connection???

the connection on the dash is a ODB port, the system is CAN-BUS.

most diagnostics tools for cars will only allow reading of fault codes and clearing them.

VAG-COM(VCDS) will allow you much more than just that. it will allow you to enable/disable features of the system.

if you have a look at the MK2 Leon FAQ guide for VAG-COM you'll see what i mean. the Leon MK2 is basically the same brain as the Altea.

Diagnositic

To quite honest, i've not used a stand alone tool. however i do have full version of VAG-Com (now called VCDS by the way) and give it the full thumbs up.

Bear in mind with the full version you get upgrades for free. Would you get that with a standalone tool?

I have tweaked a few things on my Altea and my wife's Ibiza with it, and helped alot of friends check/clear faults. It really is useful and display alot of information when you really get going.

For me it saves me cost and time with dealers. Well worth the investment in my opinion.

vag com is a brilliant tool for a altea on can-bus which your will be and it isnt worth not gettin a non compatable can-bus lead you want an 805.1 version i have got mine from genden uk brilliant all in was £300 but well worth it dont consider a fake lead genden are proper ross-tek leads
