SEAT Cupra Championship - your memories

The other sad part of SEAT imminent withdrawl from the BTCC is that it means the Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship has to be withdrawn.

I sadly have come into the series as an active fan at the wrong time. Next year, what will only by my second season supporting the drivers in the SCC, will be the final season ever.

So I am appealing to everyone who has supported it over the years to share with everyone else their memories of the SCC.

The SCC has been such an important nursery for the following seasons's BTCC stars. Gordon Shedden, Rob Huff and James Pickford, to name just three, have all come from the SCC.

It will be sad to see it go. But I am pleading with you all to see that I don't think we can let it go without letting it go in style. And part of that for me is sharing all the memories.

So, which drivers impressed you the most? Which races excited you the most? What did you see that you think was eventful?

A very cocky pole sitter comes out of the pit exit @ croft... in front of a large crowd chucks his Leon into the first corner, only for it to go horribly sideways, and throws him off into the infield & ploughing through the grass.

He went on to win the championship that year.

They'll just be flogged off & used for things like Britcar I guess

should be cheaper than £40k that they were new (old ones were 11k at the end of their official life)

I am sure it is a very important topic that needs discussing but it is just that out of respect for the threads topic and it's flow, and the consideration of the fact it wouldn't be the best move to make on certain other touring car forums, you would be doing me an enormous favour that I would be eternally grateful to you, if we please just kept it to talking about the memories you all have; of which I am sure their are many. As I say it wouldn't be allowed on certain other touring car forums and therefore the favour you would be doing me is you would be making me very happy indeed if I knew I was not always the exception to the rule on internet forums.

But having said that if you really want to talk about it you can do - I don't cultivate a climate of fear and pressure to conform to the rule of keeping to a threads topic unlike some other forums I could mention - you are perfectly free to do as you please and I won't hold it against you if you decided this was what is needed to talk about if you genuinely felt that way.

Just though you may have wanted to know how I feel. I hope that was OK and I ain't offended anyone.

In my opinion the Cupra championship was a valuable feeder series to the BTCC and if you look back at it's track record it nurtured some of the up and coming talent in motorsport.

Huffy is the prime example who has been doing great this year in the Chevrolet, and has built a brilliant career on the back of his success with SEAT. Mat Jackson is hot property in the BTCC at the moment deservedly so. Gordon Shedden was also put on the map due to the SCC.

They were the closest race series to the tourers and in more recent years has introduced a more professional level of driving not so apparent in the Clio cup.

Just a shame it didn't attract stronger grid sizes. Nothing up with the way they sounded in fact in my opinion they were one of the best sounding cars on the whole tour. But then I am biased owning a road going version producing similar power levels. :)

It would of been good for it to continue in some form even at club level.

I agree, as the Seat Euro cup was decided last weekend at Monza. The driving standards were better than any of the support races. May be not so entertaining for the TV as formula masters going off the track in all directions. But thats what the team bosses are looking for, someone who can bring the car home in the WTCC.

I remember it most for Racing Rivals in 2003, motor racing TV like you've never seen before. It was also funny to see the driver we used to see getting ratarsed in the White Hart in Buckingham every Friday and Saturday night actually drive a racing car, mind you his season didn't get completed.

Would like to get hold of the DVD of that year, as I only have it on long play VHS and the quality's very poor.
