Unforunately due to a parking mishap my Cupra has got a couple of scratches and what looks to be a dent in the lower bumper. With the lease due to end in May, i was wondering what the best option would be for repairs and a rough cost?

I had damage to the lower lip of the front bumper on a previous car (mk6 Golf GTD) - I had an ‘argument’ with a 6“ - 8” tall, thin steel bar similar to steel reinforcing rod concreted into the ground in a car park. the bar took a lump out of the plastic from the bumper, and left a nice dent.

I found a good quality independent body shop near to where I live that advertised they did plastic welding. They did a localised repair which was excellent; they plastic welded and filled the damaged area and repainted. the new paint was spot-on both in terms of colour match and finish with the original paintwork.

I know that some are of the opinion that these localised repairs can be a bit hit and miss in terms of quality of repair, paint finish and longevity and can suffer from paint fade over time, but I owned the car for nearly three more years after the repair, and it was still a 100% match with the surrounding area when I sold the car.

The cost? From memory, it cost £75 + VAT (so £90). That was in 2013, so no doubt it would cost a bit more now.

Yeah its suprising how much the quotes can vary from £250 (independent) to £1800 (dealer). I imagine it because the independant body shop can repair the bumper vs. the dealer wanting to replace the bumper

I will probably risk going with an independent first given the potential cost saving and if quality not great can later go with the more costly option.

Yeah the dealers putting on new bodyparts there and outsourcing the spraying and probably a days labour to take off the bumper and install new one.

thats a crazy figure £1800
