SatNav option, how good is that?

Hi everyone,

First post here, so I hope everything goes well.

I live in Portugal and I'm about to trade my current car, and I'm considering the new Leon FR TDI.

Mostly for 3 good reasons, engine, price and looks (the top good-looking
hot hatch of the moment, if you'll ask me).

I've seen the satnav+polichrome screen+bluetooth+mp3 option around 2800€, is there anyone who could write a little bit about the efficiency and ease of use of the satelite system mounted on the new leon?

I've googled alot and couldn't find anything about it...

Tx.

ps: guys, please forgive my poor written english...

well after searching alot, :headhurt:

I've found that the satnav installed in the new leon is the standard
dynamic MFD2 of the VW group (blaukpunt manufacter).

But it seems there is two flavours, cd based and dvd based.

Anyone knows which version is mounted on the leon?

Tx.

Hi stuart,

Tx for the reply.

I read about the"dynamic" feature (TMC), how good is that?

A portable GPS system is alot cheaper, so I'm evaluating the pros
and cons of both systems.

I've read that the MFD2 can track the map even if the gps signal
is lost (tunnels, indoor parking lots, etc), it seems that the car
is able to provide info to the satnav (direction, velocity, etc) in
this situation. Could you confirm that?

Tx.

Hi

For the TMC function to work, you need a TMC enabled disc, so I have no experiance of this... yet! when I update my disc, I intend to get the TMS disc.

The system uses the ABS sensors to track the vehicle speed etc, and trys to keep the map ontrack... I have been through a couple of tunnels, and, so far had mo problems.

I also concidered an aftermatrket system, but the "factory fit" look is better
