Sat nav and 6 cd problems

Hi all,

I recently bought a 2000 Y Toledo V5 20v.
Everything about the car is great, except two things:

1) The built in sat nav seems to work fine, but the voice of the directions is very crackly and I can't make out what she is saying. Any ideas??

2) The cartridge that holds the 6 CD's seems to be stuck in the cd player in the glove compartment. I have pressed eject and tried to help it out, but it's stuck.

Any help gratefully received.

No sat nav here, so I can't help with that.

The CD autochanger comes out quite easily, and I'd recommend that you do so to find out what's wrong. I'm guessing, but something has got in there, either broken off the caddy or a bit or outside debris, and is jamming it.

The trim surrounding the autochanger just clips on. There are latches at the top, either side - push a thin screwdriver or knife blade to disengage the latch, then lever down and forward carefully. trim will pivot around the bottom edge and then can be lifted off. Under this are two Torx-head bolts holding the autochanger into the dash.

Thanks Muttley,

I will take it out the changer and have a look.

Anybody else out there help me with the sta-nav voice? It's so bad that I've had to turn it off....

Ps - I would also like to get the latest advice on upgrading the maps as mine are sooo far out of date (2000 MY)!!

Thanks

Kai

I would like some info on updating my maps, i have a 2001 toledo v5 too. Not sure on what the cackling voice could be apart from a software issue if the speakers work fine with music coming through

The changer should come out easy enough, and may need replacing

Arron, by the looks of things the sat nav voice comes out of speakers on the unit itself, not the music speakers. There's two vents either side of the sat nav that look suspiciously like speaker grilles, albeit very tiny ones.

So its possible that the speakers in the unit have died and need replacing. Or that the connection is dodgy, and considering how hot the sat nav unit can get I'd say that is quite possibly the case.

The two small vents you mention are to do with the air con /climate control the voice comes through the front speakers,no idea why it would be poor quality unless the speakers are duff, but this would show up when the steero was on too?

Hope this helps

Now I'm confused, why would the sat nav unit have anything to do with the climate control?

I've never actually had the sat nav working on mine, as it took so long to put a postcode in I gave up!

The only other thing I might say is that if the sat nav volume is too high that might cause the speakers to crackle. I don't know whether the 'voice' part has a seperate volume control, I'd hope so?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback.

The sat nav voice comes out of the speakers at the front and they work fine with radio and i-pod music, so they are OK.
Like I said, the voice is completely crackly and garbled - very strange. The voice has a volume of her own, but it makes no difference how low I turn it down - still crackly :(

Mine doesn't have a postcode option - another reason to want an update - as well as the fact that it doesn't have a lot of the locations I want (like my street).

Thing is, if these updated disks are £100 or whatever, it's almost worth just buying a Tom Tom, right? If it's £50 and less, then I'd be interested.

Anyone fancy making a copy of theirs and sending it over - would that work?

I'd have expected yours to have a post code option in there somewhere, albeit its not the easiest thing to find. Its next to useless though, it doesn't recognise my entire village let alone my house!!

I do still get funny looks when I have my wifes sat nav sat on the top, I get comments along the lines of 'are you so bad in finding your way that you need TWO sat navs?'...

The discs are encrypted, so a bog standard copy wouldn't work. But anyone with a bit more knowledge on disc copying would be able to do a working copy. Not that I encourage that sort of activity...

Last pointer, if I remember rightly there are language options available. Is it worth changing the language to see if a different language is just as crackly? Que habla Espanol? Dos cerveza por favor senor?:D
