Saris Bones 3 cycle carrier

Ok so after perusing the boards looking for a recommended bike rack for my Leon Cupra, I went for the Saris Bones 3 rear carrier

Is there anyone who has successfully used it who can tell me:

- where the hooks which are supposed to hook to the lower bodywork will actually fit - it all seems plastic skirts to me

- whether it can be used without scratching the paintwork / breaking bits (especially the spoiler)

- whether the side straps fitted under the boot or to the side (by the rear lights)

thank you in advance for your help - I am rather puzzled as to how I can use it!!!

Cheers

J - I also bought a Saris bike carrier to fit on my MY03 LC.

I have to admit I shared your confusion with how to fit it. I have managed to fit it on a few times and it has stayed on okay in the past with a bit of "tweaking!".

The metal S-shaped hooks will hook under the top lip of the tailgate (so far they haven't scratched the paint), and the other S-shpaed ones will hook around the side of the glass at the bottom of the rear window / tailgate.

The other hooks I've either hooked around inside the rear wheelarch liners which, with true Seat build quality, have handy little gaps just right for the job, or underneath the bottom of the rear bumper.

Its a bit of a pain to fit on IMO but we got it cheap. Should maybe have looked on e-bay for a roof bar mounted carrier. Anyway, so far so good and the bike hasn't fallen off yet!

Good luck

With a little bit of modification - insulation tape and pipe insulation where it might come into contact with the body work. No bother with the spoiler either. I've made sure that I haven't picked up any scratches to the car and been a satisfied user for a while.

Having seen this thread being resurrected after a few years - I think I probably used it maybe 2 or 3 more times on the leon, once on a clio and twice on a passat company car and never once felt that it was actually secure.

In the end I got thule bars and feet from e-bay and twin roofrack cycle carrier from hellfrauds. Will probably be putting the bones 3 on e-bay - hope no-one reads this review!!!
