Hi Guy's, need some advice please...

Went to fit my S3 lower brace today, got all the bits fitted ok, compressed the rivnuts ok, undid the bolts, went to final tighten and one of the rivnuts has a stripped thread [:@] don't think i put the bolt in cockeyed, so can only assume it was a duff one to start with, bloody typical.

So my qustion is I'm going to have to get the right side one out again, some how, any ideas how to do this i suppose i'm going to have to drill it out, has any one had similar problems with these rivnuts, whats the best method of attack ???

I just know it's gonna be a f:censored:er of a job..

Any advice any one can give would be great, I'm trying to decide wether just to pay someone to do

On the plus side I fitted my DB mount which went comparativily soomthly :D

when you say its stripped the thread.. are you sure this is whats happened?

its very possible that the rivnut is just turning in the receiver.
you need to apply force against the underside of the strut brace to keep the riv nut from turning.
some manage without, some by hand, but many people have had to use a jack to apply the pressure.
Its only when the riv nut has expanded slightly that it will be held in place and stop turning.

Yeah deffo, I'm affraid to say, I stuck a trolley jack under the brace to make sure the rivnut wouldn't move, went ok on the left but the right when it wouldn't tighten up I took the bolt out and there was bit's of knackered thread on the bolt.

I was contemplateing knocking it out with cold chisel, but the subframe is solid no way into it, so i think it's driller killer time, or just pay some one to have all the hassle, is my preferred thing... i'm thinking.

is the rivenut the part that goes into the holes underneath the car? if so i have a couple of spares? might even have a spare bolt. I'll have a look and you can have it if required - free!

satilaboy, thats a very kind gesjure, that would be very nice, thank you..:D

Yes the rivnut is the little threaded insert, and obviously as soft as butter !!!!

Part numbers for the ones I used are N908 106 01 rivnut
bolts N104 176 01 after checking on here, but looking at Pabs site just now he used different ones.

shall I PM you my addy ??? are you sure you don't want anything for them ??

Car's in for yearly service next week so I'll probably get them to drill the other one out, if i cannot be bothered lying about under the car for 2 or 3 hours again
