Can anyone shed any light on this as to how easy or difficult it would be to replace my standard air vents with those from a S3, the ones with the illumination  .
Thanks for any help folks...........

Just fitted a set to mine very easy, ran an earth in from the earthing point on the lefthand side of the dast to each vent, and a positive from the live on the dimmer swtch, job done.

have a look on uk mkiv's, there is a very similar mod using the vw bora vents. Search VW bora vents and you will find loads of stuff and guides on it.

It's dead easy - the only thing to watch for is the old vents can be a little stiff to remove - a nice long flat edge ( somthing that's NOT sharp as it damages the dash) works to prise them loose. Once they're 1/4" out they just slide out.

Fitting the new ones really is a doddle, if you've already wired in the W8 light you'll already have a marked wire for the dimmer circuit. Earthing points are at each end of the dash on the bolts behind the covers - anywhere that is connected by metal to the car chassis.

I ran the dimmer feed down each screen pillar from the W8 light as i couldn't be bothered to try and run wires around the steering wheel / aircon display to the other side of the car.

Used a 6mm drill bit to carefully make holes in the ducting to get the wires from the vents through. Taped the wire on the central vent over the top of the vent to keep it from fouling so that it appeared on the correct side - as i drilled the hole for the wire to come out on the left side of the vent but the wire is on the right.
