s2000 aerial and poor reception?

well it seems form over function in this case

replaced the naff standard aerial with the s2000 aerial but ever since, the radio signal is ALOT worse, barely picking up some stations, or they keep fading in and out all the time

any cure about, or something I will have to live with?

I got the S2000 type off ebay and not had a problem with reception?. Not sure if it's to do with the frequency used around here or the actual aerial itself, as mine is fine.

I think that the in-line signal booster suggested by InfernalBadger is a good start, can't think of anything else that could fix your problem

oh, and to deviate away from the actual subject slightly...

I'm having issues with my ebay aerial. The screw section isn't long enough to fit in my base thingy on the roof of my car... it doesn't protrude whatsoever from the bottom of the black rubber like the standard one does. You guys think I've been sent the wrong one, or do I need to really try and force it in place?

Got mine from ebay and its supposed to be a genuine one (not sure how I'd tell though ??).

The thread on mine was shorter and I did have to push a bit to get the thread started but it did fit OK.

My reception seems OK but possibly a bit worse than before, mind you I do have an Alpine HU and it has much better reception than the standard HU in the first place. Will be interesting if I do some miles at the weekend and see if local stations fade out sooner as I travel away.

I have even tried putting the thick end in boiling water to soften the plastic/rubber and still no joy

This is how much of a huge difference there is between the two.. is it supposed to be like this?

(also note how I have bent the original  )

Silly question but is the thread of the base unit pointing up?, on mine it pivoted down while removing the standard one. While it was down I screwed it in a little then moved it up to vertical and secured it. I also put some super glue on mine as I don't intend to remove it often and might stop a little scrote trying to remove it.

Also I've read on here that someone had trimmed around the bottom with a sharp blade to remove some of the rubber. I think it exposed a bit more thread but am not sure if it was a genuine or copy you'd have to search.

I did manage to point the thread up yup, and I trimmed down the end and it fits! It doesn't look so great up close as the base of the aerial is still thicker than the thinnest part of the stubby thing on the roof, but from a bit of a distance it looks much better :D

Yay all sorted then :). As BCM said most of ours are the same and it's only a little bit fatter at the base
