Rveo Stage 1 or Bluefin Stage 1 (Cupra)

Hi all,

I have a 2009 pre facelift Cupra and well I am yearning for a little more power however I am completed stuck on whether to go for the Revo stage 1 (at a local garage) or simply opt for the Bluefin unit.

As far as I can tell they are both 'generic' maps and in terms of absolute power should be similar however I am swaying more towards the Bluefin unit as it is both £60 cheaper and has the ability to return the car to the stock map if required.

I am not looking for an absolute increase in power (300bhp would be a nice goal but I am not worried if I don't quite make that) but more a noticable and usable increase throughout the powerband.

My other concern is that in the future I wish to upgrade to Stage 2+ and hence don't want to go with a setup that will cause undue expense down the line. However I assume in both cases, Revo and Superchips offer an upgrade path from their respective stage 1 setups? (could anyone confirm this please?!).

What I am asking (not very well I admit) is which would you go for and why (for the sake of this ignore the fact that you can reload your stock map with the Bluefin unit as I am within a short drive of the garage that would be responsible for the Revo map and hence could get it removed if required)?

I have bluefin Stage 1 and went for this as it was the cheaper option as i already had the handset. I believe REVO is more aggressive, I find the bluefin very good, most of the power on stage one is produced higher up the rev range so there is very little affect on MPG. With REVO you can buy the switch unit which I think is around £150 on top of the price of the map itself and you can then adjust other parmimeters, to upgrade to stage 2 cost's around £100 and i cannot remember id Superchips charge £50 or £100.

Superchips offer very good customer support, REVO i cannt comment on but i would expect them to be just as good. If I had to choose again between Revo/Superchips on another then I would go for GIAC purely for something different.

Personally Revo would be my choice as it seems to offer more urgency than other maps I've experienced.

Scout about for a cheap second hand Revo Select+ and you have adaptable mapping and the ability to secure your vehicle or return to standard.

4th Revo car and having tried many others I wouldn't stray from what I know to be good. Also being UK based they are easily contactable.

my mate has an edition 30 gti, essencially the same as the cupra engine wise. he opted to go for the bluefin. ive driven revo cars and also his car. on the stage one map all i can say is it was mighty quick. as mentioned above the power comes in at the top end of each gear above 4000rpm, hence taking the impact of the transmisision etc. when it hits the 3-4000rpm mark it goes nuts. its a very nice map i have to admit. he however decided to go for a stage two map, he got the uprated airfilter and carbonia scoop, along with a custop larger downpipe , cat back millteck, decat. he contacted bluefin who upgraded the map to accomodate the changes to the car and all i can say is what the f---!!! the car has been dyno'd at a dastek roller and it produces in excess of 350+bhp at the flywheel. ive driven the car with stage 2 and when it hits 3500 rpm its absolutely wrong lol. makes you giggle. hot hatches should not be this quick with no turbo upgrade.i will add tho its essential to try get a lsd put in as it will scrabble for grip if not smooth with the throtlle in the dry even up to 4th gear with suspension upgraded. i have a lcr with full stage 2 and this car still surprised me. all in all the bluefin treatment is awesome, the bluefin guys have been very helpful to my mate and they've done a great job with the map.

as far as revo is concerned, its also a great map. had it on a cupra mark 1 leon , stage 2. the punch of that map was also awesome. revo will give you a bigger torque feel and figure so it depends on what you like i suppose.

To upgrade with Bluefin is £50 inc VAT and you keep all the other maps too ie standard, stg1, 2 & 3.

I've just added stg 3 bluefin with the HPFP upgrade and the car feels awesome! For the VFM factor and driveablilty I can strongly recommend the bluefin.

Ultimately though, whichever path you choose you will be VERY happy as with the cupra the results are very similar.

It seems as I suspected positive responses for both remaps. At the moment I am awaying more towards Bluefin as simply put it will offer similar gains to the Revo setup but costs less. Plus I have already used a bluefin unit before on my old Mondeo ST TDCI and was very impressed with the service and the quality of the product (both the unit and the map).

Sorry my fault I wasn't clear, I meant I had the bluefin unit with the Mondeo but it went with the car when I sold it (I realised to late that I could have kept it ).

I definately like the sound of more power up at the top of the rev range which should prevent (although not completely) additional traction issues.

Revo has greater user ajustability. If you are serious and want every wring of potential from your car go with revo or giac. If you are a little more relaxed bluefin will do just fine.

no mate thats incorrect to stage 2 as an upgrade its £50 BUT to get to stage 2+ it costs £99 + vat regardless if you are stage 1 or 2.

I have just had REVO stage 1 and am very impressed so far.

Its got real grunt and transforms the car, plus gives real future-proof upgradeability for later.

I strongly recommend it.

there is cheaper options than APR's fuel pump though like KMD £305 fitted. i went with revo for the adjustability.

I've seen this car on You Tube and spoke with the chap on there. Seems a nice chap, but 350bhp on a reliable dyno I would have to doubt without the addition of a fuel pump. Plus his best 1/4 mile so far is 13.9 which isn't that great if it is 350bhp and the boy can drive too..

it can be done .. mine and 4 friends had 343-356hp 450-480nm with a custom chip without upgrade pump. measured on different dyno. with upgrade pump up to 371 hp.... 13,1 1/4 mile
