i have noticed on my offside front and rear brake disc face that i have a ring of rust on the contact area its about half inch wide and starts from the outer side inwards but the area below that going towards the hub is fine. im assuming its not a sticking piston as the car doesnt pull to one side when braking nor does judder or grind and it seems to brake fine could it be one of the brake caliper pins has seized or the caliper just needs a really good clean??? im changing my disc and pads this weekend any suggestions or ideas that could be causing this as im puzzled:confused:

I had a similar problem on a previous car and it turned out to be the pads jamming in the caliper. Sounds like the outer part of the pad is sticking so when the piston pushes on it, the pad is being pushed at a slight angle onto the disc. Just clean the caliper out thoroughly and a change of pads should cure it.

Cheers pal I did think that might possibly be the issue. when I change them at the weekend I will give the caliper a good clean and a greasing and hope that helps.

Any chance you can take a picture of the ring? Might be similar to something I have.

I don't change my discs and pads though :p

ok some picture of my old disc. you can see the rusty ring around the edge and how much corrosion there is. whilst i was changing the pads and thought i might treat the calipers to a bit of paint, pretty please with the result but not so pleased the fact that i twisted two 21mm socket and snapped a 7mm allen key head in the caliper bolt apart from that a lot easier than i expected.
