Rusty Leons...

...I've never seen one.

Has anyone had any issues with rust at all or ever seen a rusty Leon?

I was thinking and before you ask, it hurt, which areas of the car I should pay attention to. After owning some Honda's, rust prevention became part of the cleaning routine as most Honda cars are well know for rusting on the rear arches. Do Leons have similar issues after a certain amount of years? The arches should be fine, force of habit still has me picking the dirt out from the lips of the arches.

I found rust on the front wheel arch lip at the bottom where the side side skirt joins on both sides. obviously where stones have hit it coming off the tyres. Also the paint has worn off the skirts in the same area but im not bothered too much about this as its plastic anyway! all i did was rub the rust off with a bit of wet and dry and painted it with my touch in stick, you dont notice it now. apart from that the car is rust free!!

Ive not seen a rusty Leon, but TBH I always clean the arches, and sometimes remove the front arch liners and give that a clean out.

Well that's good to know. A bit of surface rust is fine like you had godber, to be honest it's bound to happen. I'm glad to know that they are not prone to rotting through, one of my old cars was a nightmare for this and I had to get parts cut out and rewelded in.

Thanks for the replies you two, i'll make sure I keep on top of the arch cleaning :)

You're right, I've given it a good inspection and I can't see a thing, looks like new under there also. Not too worried about mechanical parts being rusty as they don't rot through too easy and much easier to replace than a 1/4 panel :)

Front antiroll bar

I found a small part of the front ARB had rusted and flaked away, where the bar contacts the bushes.
I only noticed this when upgrading the bushes, after the classic knock-knock, whos there? Knackered ARB bushes carry on.

All the hangers holding my exhaust to the the bottom of the car rusted/detiorated.
I had to get a welder to put me some new brackets on to pass its mot.
Aside from that just a couple of bad stonechips on the bonnet have rusted. The car is an 03.

Yeah i have the same problem. The hanger holding my backbox has rusted out so i'm gonna need to get that welded back on. Shouldn't be too big a problem though.

Only ever noticed surface corrrosion on the chassis components. Engine seems clean at 60k and 5 years. No body rust other than the odd chips round the wheel arches which are worth treating early.

Hi there, I've got a touch of rust at the top of a rear wheel arch - whats the best way to deal with it (7 yrs old 60k miles cupra).

Also, where is the best place to get paint to match the car (mines a silver one)?

Cheers

ive got little bubbles around the top of my window.i think due to stone chips and both rear arches which i think there due to stones shotting up and hitting that part of the car

Don't know about the leons but my 2001 Toledo is galvanised. Coming up for 8 years old and not a spot of rust :)

Slip sliding - is it my tyres

Sorry, posted in wrong place so ignore the title....

However, after buying my car I noticed some rust around the front wing where it meets the bumper. Had a bodyshop look at it and they believe that the wing has had a minor knock at some point, pushing it in just a mm or two and this has allowed the wing to run against the bumper. As such, the lip that meets the bumper started to corrode and has slowly worked its way up to the wing. Anyway, going to the bodyshop next weekend to get sorted out. How I didn't notice it when I brought the car I shall never know... Love is blind I guess.
