Hi
I posted a thread a few days ago about my car having intermittent episodes of feerling held back. I have dedicated this weekend to trying to get closer to identifying the problem.
Initially the thoughts were that the MAF may have been the problem but my findings today may point to something else. Basically I think the problem is that something somewhere is sticking. If I cruise along and maintain a steady speed so the revs are around 2.2krpm and then gradually plant my foot, the car will do one of two things:
1) You get the distinctive surge of boost / torque at around 2.5k rpm and you can hear the whistle sucking sound and the car pulls swiftyly to 5k rpm +
2) There is no 'distinctive' surge of boost / torque at around 2.5k rpm and the car will feel held back (almost constipated) through to the upper revs. You then have to ease of the gas so the revs drop back to around 2.5k rpm and then apply the throttle again - 9 times out of 10 you then get the surge of the turbo again and the car will pull cleanly towards the redline. Sometimes when in the upper revs and the car is feeling held back you will get a sudden 'pop' like something has become unstuck or unblocked and then all is fine again and the car whizzes off...it's this latter point that is making me think my fault is mechanical as opposed to a misreading sensor.
I'm certain that this is not turbo lag as in one instance today the car would not go past 4k rpm for a few seconds (I was overtaking at the time) so I just held the throttle steady, and then there was a sudden pop / snap of boost and all was well again.
Could the above point towards an N75 or DV problem?? I would note that when the car is feeling bad, the throttle bite seems to be really long when pulling away in first and sometimes it will almost dip into a stall as you pull away (done this twice today).
