Rough steering

This is my second thread and I’ve found this site very useful.

When I first start off in my 2.0 TDI Altea, the steering feels very rough and heavy.

Anyone else had the same thing?

Cars under warranty so will put it in on the next service.

There is a batch of steering racks that have "faulty seals" as i was told by my dealer - i complained of crunchy grinding noises when doing car park manouvres, with the steering going heavy at times, they checked the steering rack against thier list and its one of the dodgy ones - now awaiting dealer to phone me to get it replaced. (reminds me - must phone Ted Johnsons to chase!)

Irony of the situation is the car was fine before i had my wheel walloped by a passing bin wagon which managed to wreck the steering rack and a suspension arm, the repairs involved putting a new rack on the car - so i went from a good steering rack prior the accident to a faulty rack after the repair :)

Thanks for the info.
Car inspected today and is booked in for a new steering rack for Monday!
Seat garage have been really good and should be all done in one day !
Dealer mentioned that they've only had new Leon's with this problem and this is the first Altea !!!!!!!

Just an up-date :

Seat collected my car on Monday and replaced the steering rack and returned the car to me at 5pm.

My Altea seems to have a new lease of life...

It feels like a car should, solid and sits on the road like my old Cupra (Leon)

If anyone has rough steering its worth getting it checked out by Seat !!!!

:funk: I'm a happy man !!

mine got swapped out last week, and has been fine since (well a quick re-visit today to get the steering wheel aligned properly - it was a few degrees out) steering is smoother, and no noises when doing 3 point turns :)
