Thinking about buying a kayak and for other transport purposes, would like a set of (fitted - ie use correct fitment points) roof bars for my LC TDi.

I've had Thule in the past on other cars - and there's oddles of accessories for them.

Anyone know of a reason I shouldnt go for the Thule over offical Seat ones (which I presume cost more).

Yes, they're crap compared to the SEAT ones. Apparently (I haven't tried the Thule ones, but I remember reading posts by a few people that had).

When I looked, the Thule ones had an extra bar at the front and IIRC didn't use the standard mounting points. The extra bar apparently made them very noisey.

The SEAT ones are very easy to take on and off, and are very secure, although quite a few people lost or snapped the end caps (I've never had a problem, but I've been extra careful after reading that...).

My only criticism is the price (but they are worth it if you use them a lot) and they aren't the widest bars I've ever had, but if I can get 8'x4' sheets on there, they're wide enough :D

Edit: They're not 4' wide btw, just I've found a neat way of doing it... Oh, and apparently the SEAT bars are made by Thule, and are 'T' Slot compatible, although I've never tried any accessories.

Tony - I sent you a PM, cause I'd like 1st refusal on your bars plz.

I did do a search for roof bars - and read the poor feedback on the Thule - however the posts were quite old and I believe Thule's later models do use the proper attachment points.

However if I get a pair of 2nd hand Seat ones then I'm laughing.

Cheers

I've got some Thule aero bars on at the moment.

Prefered them to the SEAT one 'cos they are abit wider. Very easy to fit, just two bolts per bar and not too noisy on the motorway.

I'm a kayaker and use the Seat bars. I have used the Thule Aero bars on other cars and are good (Thule make most OEM roofracks anyway). Theres not much in price difference but the Seat ones fit the best as the footpack contours to the roof of the car.

PS lots of kayaking info on my site
