all sound deading from floor sides of car gone ( was over a stone of weight alone)

all redundant brackets removed

some interior wiring removed more to come

seat rails welded

still to do:

cut boot and door innards out,
fit poly carb windows
remove electrics for windows, mirrors
light weight race mirrors
prime and paint inside
lighten dash
finish removing air con
sub frame weight
other crap in engine bay

more ideas:

lighter pannels
lighter battery
smaller race fuel cell
single wiper
naughty roll cage

not to everones ideas of what to do with a car but keeps me busy and should be a bonus on track and the drag strip :drive1:

just need some more grinding disks now as killed a few so far

Hats off

Looks quality, i'd definatley go down that route if the cupra was a second car. Alas it isn't so i'll have to keep it liveable for a daily drive.

Keep us posted :)

Good stuff - nearly looks like Kev's car

900kg - doubt it, not as a road legal car with a 1.8T in it and a cage. And I would seriously consider if you want to remove the heater / window demisters etc........it rains a lot in the UK

900 is my target, but mine has a 16V and an aweful lot less stuff in the engine bay than a turbo - got more power than a lot of turbo's though LOL

I have seen an ibiza at 850kg but this was a non road legal 1600 with lightweight everything, no lights, no heater, lightweight subframes etc etc

Cheers

year door bars comming out and the sound deading sheets on the inner skins

i guess its opitmistic rob, but gives something to aim for, more likely low 900 with no cage in it?? maybe???

either way going to get it light as possibly can

as for the heater ill fig some thing up,

ideally need to sorce headed front screen? or if can get small batch made, not sure how viable this would be,

kind of need a new screen as when manic with the grinder the sparks have shitted it up abit

yer its going the 106 route but hopefully better as better power, will never look as good as the 106 tho

when get round to cage will be going full monty, suspension pick up, front turret connections, braced a and b pillars. but this is way off yet will be late next year,

want to get some drag action in first without a cage see what it can do

Redline Motorsport in Northwich Cheshire can make custom heated front screens - let me know if you go this route as I need a new one

cage is 40-50kg. Depends what you strip out of it - if dash/heater/electric windows/all ancillary gubbins then maybe low 900's...dunno - issue with a 1.8T is that its heavy and has a lot of heavy stuff like manifold/turbo/intercoolers etc etc - my engine bay looks empty compared to a turbo

any ideas on cost rob just off the top of ya head?

few more things want to do first but near x-mas could sort something out, see if few others want to join in get small batch made?

yer thats the only problem, guess got to compromise the weight for more power im sure be worth it,

you need to give an update of your beast, hows it coming on

one thing what had added weight is the arb, they weigh a sh*t load

dont get me wrong, turbo's are ace and the extra power does offset the weight penalty so long as you have enough grip, chassis balance and driver skill to deploy the power

I stick to 2L atmo as its quick enough for me to drive hard and the over 2L class in sprinting is scarey and huge budget (TVR tuscans, vipers, 4wd rally turbo nutters etc)

My car will be finished in a couple weeks - engine is back in - power steering and alternator back on last night (slight complication as I have changed the size of the pulleys to slow stuff down a bit). Next big job is fitting dry sump lines - got the fittings and pipe but its an awkward job to get right. Once this is done, couple days should see it finished.

Carn't wait to fire it up - over 240hp and over 170ftlb on the dyno.......

Ave it

be an animal mate, yer if competing n/a is better, less items, electronics to go wrong, less complicated, lighter, ect

and everyone loves the sound of boddies!!!

mine just for fun, track days and 1/4 mile would not have the cash backing to go into anything competitive

the baulk of the costs are in the car prep Andy.
£180/event, not dissimilar to track days

all down to what you want to do obviously.

Track days have more wear and tear from more miles on track/day than race.
another factor is how hard you actually drive the thing..

welcome to the slippery slope...

lol

only problem you would face if follow your route bill for track goer, to hard core racer would be getting the car back to a spec to meet required regulations
