Revo Stage 2+ Linear Throttle?

All,

I took my leon Cupra R in for the Stage 2+ upgrade today. I opted for the linear throttle from recommendations on the net. I drove the car home for about 2 hours via different roads for a test.

My first impressions of the throttle response are not good.

I understand you need to put your foot down for the power but it feels like there is a big turbo lag and really awkward to drive. When it was a stock engine, I got amazing pull in every gear even from 2k revs and up, this just doesn't happen now, you have to constantly drop down a gear and thrash it a little before the engine opens up properly.

I bought the SPS Switch so I'll probably take it back to the garage and ask them to apply a second option without the linear throttle and see what happens.

Feel a bit pissed off about it really, has anyone else felt the same?

My style of driving is to enjoy short bursts of power with great torque, dont think the linear option suits me really.

Whast does everyone else think?

On a more positive note, the Milltek exhasut sounds pretty good, gives a bit of a rumble at low revs.

The Revo high flow air intake is also bloody loud! just be aware of that if your having it done, takes some getting used to, sounds pretty much like a dump valve, people definately notice it when your driving past. If the leon was going to be my every day car then it might irritate me a little, depends on what you want really.

Something wrong bud make sure your car is set up correctly. Stage 2+ torque is unbelievable :)

I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about throttle response on a 'proper' Stage 2+ car!

Probably will be the fact it is linear. I irony is that the linear map costs more, right?

Linear throttle option is no extra cost, I would hope that the garage I went to will either add the non linear as a second option via the SPS Switch or just remove it free of charge. (they seem like good guys)

As an example, before on stock engine running at 30mph in 5th or 6th gear, if I put my foot down you would feel the engine pulling straight away. Now if i do the same and put my foot right down to compensate for the linear mode then it feels really flat.

I get the same throughout the speed range until you hit around 4 - 5k revs, surely that isn't right?

Everybody i have spoke to recommends Linear Throttle. including TFSIMike on his APR Stage2+

I haven't got it as it wasn't an APR option for the CDLA engine, but been told it will make the car easier to drive with the LSD

No comment on the map, but that's a very quick way to kill your clutch. Change down! :D

Were the settings tweaked or did they just flash it on and leave it at that? If so it'll be set to boost1 and timing/fuel 0 so it will feel flat until they are adjusted accordingly to get the most from the software.

This is the first time I've heard disappointment surrounding the linear throttle files, we've had a lot customers commenting on how much more usable the power was as oppose to the aggressive files.

Linear Throttle is nice...if it feels flat...it must be the Revo settings or it could be on Stock! throttle adaption is easily done via Vag-Com but yea check the settings again....Stage2+ win!

Wasn't available for me when i asked Keith the other month, i know TFSIMike has got it but hes got a different ECU to me.

Make sure when they load it they use the same settings, because if they use different and the car suddenly feels alot better you will blame the throttle mapping and it wont be causing it

Yeah I did actually cover this briefly with the garage over the phone today, they will leave the settings as current, just swap the map.

If I'm still in doubt after map swap then I may hit the rolling road to get some idea/reassurance of the power output. Anyone know how much it's likely to cost for a quick rolling road session?

£40+ some charge stupid amounts like £75

Yeah but where someone has paid £15k for a budget 2wd 350bhp setup and plonked it in the corner of their workshop they can profit from charging £40 over a short space of time, especially if they only give you one pull.

Some people choose to go all out. We have a dedicated cell with high flow fans with an external blower, an extraction system, large LCD monitor and a 1200bhp bosch 4wd Dyno, that was £75k plus the £7.5k fitting costs (for excavating the hole, strengthening the "tank", 3 different layers of concrete, several RSJs etc).

We charge £75. This includes safety checks, adjustments, a warm up run then 3 power runs and a lovely colour printout to stick on your fridge door :D
