Revo dilema

I have a leon fr tdi 150 on 05 plate. I really want to get revo and i can afford it. The problem is the car is still under warranty and my insurance company may not allow it. Can you guys please advise me. Is it worth the risks. I know it can be switched off easily when taken it to dealers but is it worth the risks of voiding warranty. Is there anyone in similar position or anyone who has revo and their car is still under warranty?

Thanks

I think most people who have Revo (*cough* Custom Code *cough*) have their cars still under warranty. Many dont even decalare to their insurance tho dont admit to it.

Both are easily switchable within a minute or so. Revo needs a ~£100 SPS1 unit whereas custom code just needs VAG COM (which is similar priced but can do so much more).

Have some searches as its been discussed lots. Looking at torque curves etc and as a personal runner of a remap, i couldnt live without it. More Power, More Torque, Smoother delivery (no spikes), Higher ecomony, even more torque :p

Do it... Call JBS!

Speak to your insurer for a start. They may insure you. Then take it from there. Concerning the warranty I dont think anyone has had there's voided by a dealer, even a few clutch's have been replaced under warranty. As for the insurance.... upto you.

  I had my clutch done under warranty, weak pressure plate or something.

Also had SEAT Assist recover my car over 350 miles and a repair on the ECU's earth which caused the car to die, while I had Revo code. Warranty work isnt usually a problem, as long as the failiure isn't directly associated to the code.

I stand corrected :hide: ...but was it a diesel?

If its the one I'm thinking of, it was a petrol, and the refusal for warranty work was more to do with the way it had been driven, than for the fact that it had an aftermarket code on the ECU.

That's the one. Although in my defence I didn't specify it was down to having a remap on there. ;)

whats the cough cough for? i dont understand?

I assume he's just throwing CC into the equation as an alternative.
I first thought he was implying that CC was in fact a Revo remap!!

thanks guys....so u reckon i should go for it and stop worrying?
Basically, if you can't afford to pay for it incase it all goes wrong and your warranty is void then don't do it. Same with insurance really.

Yes i was throwing CC into the consideration process, they seem to have a much more liner power delivery with less torque spikes and hence less clutch punishment. 2 guys came specially from Northern Ireland to JBS to get the Phase 2 treatment and i can assure you they were impressed!

You should go for it in my opinion - comletely transforms the car. Where abouts are you located and where are your nearest tuning specialists?

If your current insurer says "no" to the mods, then shop around. There are companies who are mod-friendly: I've recently got a fairly good quote from GreenLight who quoted £557 for a 170bhp remapped Ibiza FR TDI. Shop around for some quotes before you get the remap and see what you can find.

Whether to declare your mods to the insurer is a personal thing. Personally, I wouldn't think of hiding it. The possible consequences of getting caught could be severe: you could be liable for tens of thousands of pounds of 3rd-party liability in the event of an accident, and you may find yourself on an insurance black-list where insurers will simply refuse to touch you at all.

I also don't agree with people who say the insurers have no way of finding out about your remap. I'm not sure of this, but I suspect you might be able to detect many remapped cars using relatively cheap equipment that anyone can buy (I'm not going to give details, because hey - I don't want to give the insurers any hints!). If it costs a few hundred quid to collect the equipment and software necessary to detect a variety of remapped cars, that's tiny compared to the potential savings for the insurer.

Serial port remapping is a new and rapidly growing industry. Insurers may not have caught up with it yet, but it's only a matter of time IMHO. When they do catch up, it'll mean it's less sensible to conceal the remap from them - but the flip side is that the insurance industry might start being more willing to insure remaps once they know more about the statistical risks.
