Rev limiter on 2.0 8v 1997

hey guys just a quick post to ask whether any of you know what the rev limiter should be coming in at on my mates toledo. its currently bouncin off the limit at 5100 revs which is 1100 revs before the red line. any ideas? hes changed rotor arm and was thinkin it might be engine speed sensor which would mean new distibutor.

This can affect the Mk3 Golf GTi as well, has he had the cambelt replaced recently as it can be the belt being 1 tooth out IIRC. You could have a look on here if you get no joy on here:

had the cambelt done at 64000 miles and now at 92000. gonna put the car into a garage me thinks

You were spot on m8 - had it checked today and now timing is spot on.Car is running a dream now.So thanks for the heads up m8 - well appreciated.Finally got the car running the way it should - only took me 2 years to get annoyed enough with it to get it sorted
