Has anyone here retro fitted the factory colour sat nav into thier Altea?

if so was there any problems or issues that made the job difficult?

There has been some discussion before on here. Someone is selling VAG ones on ebay I recall, that triggered it off, putting a VAG one in a Seat. Then there is the aeriel issue you have to change the one fitted as I recall, but the cabling could be there.

The thread then dwindles out into the factory fitted one is crap, since it only has one country on it per CD.... all from memory.

Thanks Tell - the upgrade is popular amongst the Audi A3/A4 owners, and it looks simple enough, with the adapters for wiring available readily, perhaps the only complexity is the vag-com programming so that the nav instructions appear on the "hi-line" mfd in the instruments.

A user of the audi navigation plus who had chance to drive a VW with the same nav system but with the different screen and controls said the VW system was better to use.

I love my tom-tom however the costs for the XL Altea Seat dashboard mount, plus the costs to sell my 700 and buy a 710 to fit the adapter all add up, and still leaves with the hassle of security for the tom-tom. I'd much rather loose a little in functionality if the ease of use and security aspect was better. :)

A VW MFD2 should work no problems. I looked into it for my Leon and all was needed is a fascia adapter (from the dealer), and the GPS antenna could even sit underneath the dash board.

You can also get a DVD version of the VW MFD2.
There are several modeals so look out for the correct one.

yeah - on ebay at the mo there are plenty of nav units, some are the newer VW ones with silver buttons, that play audio cd's rather than needing a cd changer. most appear to have blue menus from vw cars, there is one with green menus that is the Skoda colour, plus the writing on the buttons looks to be a different font. I need to research if the software disc for a seat sat nav would update the menu colours and power-up logos, if put into a skoda or vw original sat nav. plus i need to find a decent photo of the seat sat nav to determine if the button font is different - not that it matters that much, but if your going to do a job right ..... etc etc :)
